Because that's not how it works. It comes down to who owns the character's name and likeness. Randy Savage owned his ring name and likeness (now his estate), not the WWF/E. And, Mattel could say that they can't make any more HBK figures if Shawn is no longer signed to a merchandising deal with the WWE. The WWE, and Mattel, cannot make Shawn Michaels figures if Shawn is not signed to a merchandising deal with either company. I sort of understand where WWE is coming from wanting guys to be under βLegendsβ deals, but damn does it hamstring things. I really wonder what Mattel mightβve made by now if they were playing by the same rules Jakks had during the heyday of the Classic Superstars line. I feel like the list of βlegendsβ Jakks did that Mattel has not is larger than those that Mattel did that Jakks has not. However, those Mattel did that Jakks could not is more of a quality list, with Macho, Sting and Steamboat at the top. |

I get the mentality of "hey, end of the day, Mattel made a ton of Macho Man figures over the years, we can't complain" and I do actually agree with it. It's silly to get upset over something Mattel has no control over.
But most of them came out before alternate hands were a thing. Before soft goods replaced rubber shirts. Before double jointed pinless elbows. If there was 1 guy who probably deserved the Greatest Hits treatment, its Randy.
I'm going to hold out hope that by next year things get sorted out and this Ultimate sees the light of day. Plus, there are still a good handful of fairly popular looks of his that still haven't been made.

This Kyle Peterson is definitely angling to get his free Macho King Ultimate Edition.
"Think of it from Mattels side, primarily the big heavy hitters Macho Mans have been done"

Ozer probably winked at him (don't worry you will get your figure).
My other point is.....how can you go from Mattel Macho Mans to those ZST Macho Man face scans? He looks like he is doing a Bee Gees tribute tour in a Las Vegas convention center.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the Colosseum Collection I'd probably be set on Savage figs. On the other hand, if I was told that I can never buy another Mattel figure unless it's Colosseum Collection, but everyone will definitely be made I'd be fine with that too.
