The 1993 KOTR tournament will always be the best one. The 1994 KOTR tournament was very solid but ruined by the commentary of Art Donovan. The 1995 KOTR tournament would have been perfect if Shawn Michaels won the tournament. Everyone thought HBK was gonna win it that year, and the 15 minute draw with Kama just killed the excitement. The 1996 KOTR tournament was okay, but HBK vs. Bulldog, Ahmed vs. Goldust and Mankind vs. Undertaker made up for the only 4 man tournament. Plus Owen Hart on commentary was great! After that, the KOTR show just started to lose it's magic for me. It was just treated as just like an ordinary PPV event that followed the last one. Pretty much agree with this. After 1997, it really didn't feel special anymore. They had so many PPVs, it no longer stood out. There's something to be said about the 5 PPV's the WWF had at the time. Two had a traditional card, while the other three were gimmick PPVs, but each gimmick was different, so they had their own special feel. And by only having 2 traditional card PPVs, they felt bigger/more important. As for KOTR 1995, the winner should have been a monster heel Bam Bam Bigelow. It would have been the best way to rebuild his image after losing to LT at WM11. Also, we would have gotten Diesel vs Bam Bam instead of Diesel vs. Mabel. it was perfect with 5 ppvs and yes havin 2 regular ones (although i wish they stuck with a tag match for summerlsam main events like the 1st 2 and 1991), then a rumble, team matches, and a tourney to round it out was pefect for the year the addition of IYH mini ppv's was fun but they shoulda stuck with just raw doing those cards/matches or a return of sat nights main event maybe

I've been going back thru and watching these and I'm just such a mark for Bret's 93 run at that PPV. Probably my favorite series of matches in that tournament. My question to you guys, where are you at on KotR? Favorite moments? Matches? (I swear Back to the Codyverse, this is the last time I'm bringing it up) The PPV wasn’t on my upcoming menu to watch but I’ve made some changes. I’ll be watching this show again very soon

But after the addition of the king of the ring, it seemed like for a while, the winner of the KOTR would get a title match with the champion at Summerslam.

I loved the 1993 King of the Ring, Bret truly was on a whole other level that night. I am also a big fan of the 1996 and 2000 King of the Ring as well.

Bret winning in Dayton in 93 Owens run in 94 Bret Vs Diesel HBK vs Kama Austin’s speech Mankind vs Undertaker 98 Shane vs Kurt Kurt making Hogan tap Xavier winning
Some of my favorite King Of The Ring moments and matches. While the tournament itself isn’t something I care much about, the event has given us a ton of great content.

Angle vs Shane in 01 was special 2001 was the Kurt Angle show. Absolutely one of the best street fights they've done.

I didn't like how they went to just the four man tournament in 96. Probably how awful 95 was helped their decision to change things. I know PPVs were becoming more feud bases and there were some pretty good feuds going forward. Also some thrown together matches with guys who probably wouldn't see a tournament like Taka, Headbangers, Too Much and the New Midnight Express in 98.
I personally would have liked to see a whole night of a tournament, almost like Wrestling Classic though they had a lot of really strange matches there and I guess a tournament with mostly lower card guys wouldn't have worked well in the 90s. 93-95, I guess those guys were the "best of the best" not involved in feuds like Shawn, Taker, Bret but then you had Mr. Hughes, past his prime Duggan, Mable, IRS, Roadie, Bob Holly, Kama who really were at the stage of their careers they shouldn't be in a tournament.

Yup Bam Bam on a tear from May to Summerslam including KOTR 1995 victory.
So many they could have fed him weekly & on the May & July PPVs.

True, but the loss ended up making Bam Bam the simp and had him tag with Diesel to form "best friends 2.0" because that seemed so unnatural, when everyone knew HBK and Diesel were best friends.
Vince made Wrestlemania 11 to be just like Wrestlemania 1. Everything about 11 was a carbon copy of 1.
IC Title ending in a dq, heels winning the tag titles, a celebrity in the main event, the loser of that match ending up being friends with the WWF Champion, the giant vs. giant match with Taker vs. Bundy.
So even though Bigelow using that loss at Mania to ignite a fire to destroy everyone, he then just became a baby face simp and trailed behind Diesel and HBK in that mediocre feud with the Million Dollar Corporation.
