I thought about posting this in the classic wrestling forum but that would exclude newer fans.
When did you get into wrestling? Was there a particular show, character, storyline, videogame etc that hooked you? How old were you?
I was seven or eight, my friend showed me WM7. That summer, we got cable and I started watching the show and collecting the trading cards. I don’t think it was any one particular thing, it was all awesome to kid me - the flamboyant weirdness of Macho Man… Jake Roberts training Warrior to face Undertaker but then betraying him… Sgt Slaughter trying to murder Hulk Hogan with a fireball… everything about Ultimate Warrior and LOD… British Bulldog’s delayed suplex… Mountie’s shock stick and a policeman trying to stop him… the whole spectacle of it all was amazing, never looked back.

My grandfather got a satellite dish in 1989 had to have been after WrestleMania V as Hulk Hogan was the champion. I would catch it here and there and eventually, it picked up real traction with the 1989 UK Rampage being a big deal and heavily advertised on Sky at the time I cannot remember the exact date, but it was after SummerSlam, it was the first WWF show that I remember being very excited for. I would watch it when I could and by the end of 89 I was well and truly hooked.

My parents would occasionally watch it. We could only watch Nitro since it was on free TV and Raw was on cable. This was back in early to mid 1998. Eventually they stopped and I kept watching. I always liked seeing Sting. A guy in ominous face paint coming down from the rafters then hitting fools with a baseball bat? Hells yes, sign me up. Then nWo Wolfpac became a thing and I was 110% on board. Steve Austin? Who cares. Undertaker? No interest. DX? Go away, and take your silly crotch chop with you. It was all red and black for me.

I was 8 years old at the time. Christmas Day 2006, my brother got Smackdown vs Raw 2007. At the time, i knew the phrase 'wrestling' and always thought of it as just a tussle with someone, i had no idea what 'Professional Wrestling' was or that it was a whole industry. I loved fighting games like DBZ & Tekken, so seeing that this was another fighting game peaked my interest. The days following, i watched him play it and eventually asked if i could, but in typical sibling fashion, any time i tried to look at it or ask if i could play it, my brother would respond with the "No, it's my game, you can't play it".
January 1st 2007, my brother was at his friends house for the day, so i decided i'd just go and play it while he was out. From memory, the first song i heard was 'Forgive Me' or 'Lonely Train'. After navigating the menu and getting to the character select, i remember going through the roster & being so intrigued by all the cool looking renders. I eventually settled on Triple H, then when he was making his entrance, i thought it was the coolest thing with the multi coloured lights, badass song, jacked guy with cool hair & a mean face, and then the water spit. Into the match, i had no idea what the controls were so i just made it up as i went & tried. By this point i think i was sold on 'wrestling'.
Later that day, as i heard the garage opening & my brother home, i turned it off and acted as if i never played it. A few days or a weekish later, he must have 'grown out' of wrestling, so i eventually claimed the SvR07 and played it nonstop. One of my early favourites that i always loved to play as was Booker T.
From there i only got into wrestling more, before eventually getting my first figures on my birthday in April, and from there the rest is history.

1980 or 1981? I was four or five. I found it on the TV. Thought it was cool. Probably WWF. Became an actual fan years later with Jim Crockett and TBS.

Summer 1999 thanks to The Rock. He was like a real life superhero to me. I knew movies & TV weren't legit but wrestling felt real. I watched for quite a while believing it was real. They were the best times as a fan.

I woke up one Saturday morning when I was a kid and was going to go outside to play but it was raining, I turned on the TV and saw a guy wearing a dress with a microphone making fun of this dumpy looking guy and then all of a sudden he started to beat him up. After he was done beating up the guy he looked into the camera and said "You don't thrown rocks at a man whose got a machine gun."
Hooked ever since. But it's getting more difficult to keep being hooked with all the crap from both sides, more on the side of Jacksonville.

My Late older brother was watching the May 30th 2008 SmackDown, it was the go home SD before One Night Stand 2008. I was 7 years old starting summer vacation and was beyond intrigued. I stayed up and watched it with my older brother.
Edge-The Undertakers closing cutting edge segment had me hooked. Was taken back by Edge being this cool dressed rockstar that was a sleeze ball and I found my favorite superstars
Within weeks I’m watching Monday Night Raw/SD Consistently after the 2008 Draft. Soon I realized there was ECW and my mom was channel surfing one night and found TNA Impact and soon I was watching wrestling 4 nights week.
Soon Anytime my parents bought me a toy it’s gonna be wrestler. And I slowly grew out of 2003 Era Ninja Turtles
My brother had all the N64 Games and we didn’t have money for PlayStation or Xbox. Soon I discovered what was WCW Via that and was confused asking my brother why TNAS Sting was in WCW and hulk hogan?? Lol
Then I found WWF No Mercy and was even more confused what WWF was since it basically was like everyone in the WWE 😂😂
Pretty much at that point I ate slept and breathed Wrestling. Forever blessed by god for stumbling in on my late older brother. I kinda discovered the ICW, Wrestling figure community pretty young around 2011-2012. And sorta became in-tuned with the booking and more smark stuff.
I miss talking to my older brother about storylines and booking; he kept up with the main event scene of the product pretty active. And we watched WM XXX together.
He also was the first one to explain the Montreal screw job to me

I basically came out of the womb watching. My brother is 7 years older and was a huge fan growing up so I fell right in there with it. I was born in October of 1990 but my first memories really start around late 93 - early 94
I recently just restored his blue Hasbro ring we found in the attic at our moms so that’s a nice addition to the collection with plenty of nostalgia.

UK here - parents got Sky in November 1990 and Sky One showed Survivor Series in two parts (not live obviously) and I was hooked.
Listened to 1991 Rumble via scrambled screen as that was on Sky Movies then and by Wrestlemania 7 has that channel.
Around this time saw adverts in “Satellite Times” for “WWF Action Figures” and the rest is history!

Everyone was talking about Wrestlemania 21 and how they were gonna watch it that Sunday
Being I was in Elementary school and my brain capacity was just “I wanna fit in”
I asked my mom if we can order it and I instantly fell in love. I of course passed out before the Cena/JBL and Batista/Triple H but Rey vs Eddie, The MITB, Orton vs Undertaker, it all had me hooked
I discovered this forum in like 2007 I wanna say? When I was doing figure fed things and looking for Entrance stage templates to print out and stuff
Around 2011 became more wise things and by 2012 was a full fledge mark

I used to have a tv which if you flicked thru the channels would pick up a ultra grainy audio of wrestling happening. That was my first salvo and then 3 years later our neighbours were of money so had the sky to watch it all and gave us tapes to watch. Me and my brother. We fell so hard. Going up to our grandmas house to watch metal and heat on sky. Then channel 4 got some pa pa vews… Royal Rumble 2000 was the first live event we ever watched it was so ing goddamn good I mean jesus can you imagine what that does to an 11 year olds brain. Bang bang.

What got me into wrestling was I turned on Smackdown tonight and saw Roman Reigns holding the Undisputed Tag Titles as well as Paul Heyman holding the Undisputed WWE Universal Titles, and I knew right then that I was hooked.

Wrestling was all my dad and uncle talked about,so I just had to see what all the fuss was about. When I was around 7 or 8 I started watching with them and just fell in love with all of it. Sting was my number one favorite and still is to this day. I got out of wrestling when a lot got into it with the Attitude Era but when my nephew got old enough to start watching I got back into it again and been a big fan ever since.

1984 or ‘85, World Class Championship Wrestling. My aunt who is 8 years older was into WCCW at the time. When we would go to Grandma’s house on Saturdays my aunt would be watching. At the same time, my best friend had an older sister probably around the same age as my aunt and she had posters of the Von Erichs on her walls. My friends older brother was probably in high school at the time and for Halloween he and 2 of his friends dressed up like the Freebirds. So when I would go to my friends house, which was everyday after school, I got exposed to it there too. Me and my friend both got hooked at the same time.

I recall a few times my grandfather watching wrestling, but it didn’t catch my attention or anything at the time. When I got to middle school the friends I made were fans, and would play the video game, so eventually I just ended up becoming interested and started to watch. The first memory I have is seeing John Cena as Vanilla Ice on SmackDown in 2002… first PPV I watched was Royal Rumble 2003.

It was 1988 & I was 8. Sky TV was new where I grew up & my Da got cable because he was burned out with poor reception from the aerial.
It was late 88 so I was exposed to the Mega Powers & their breakup. To this day it remains one of my favorite stories & WM5 just blew me away.
Fan ever since. Apter magazines & attempts in vain to tape nwa/wcw off HTV @2:35am Sunday morning followed 🤣🤣🤣
