June 13, 1993.
Today is the 30th anniversary of the inaugural King of the Ring. There had been other coronations in previous years, but this was the first time the event was featured as a PPV and would be an annual tradition for the better part of the next decade.
A fun show for nostalgia regardless, but without Bret it would be mostly forgettable outside of the World title bout which ended up being the final televised appearance for Hulk Hogan in the WWF until 2002.
After getting snubbed at WrestleMania IX, Bret was on a mission this night to steal the show and he did just that by having three great matches with three very different opponents. His semifinal match against Mr. Perfect is incredible and I would even argue better than their SummerSlam 1991 contest.
Lawler spoiled his moment in the end, but their feud that summer had a ton of heat which lead to a very entertaining match at SummerSlam 1993.
And who would have thought that "The Narcissist" would go from a time limit draw versus Tatanka on this show to where he would end up about three weeks later?

one of my fav events of all time loved all the matches. but was hoping mr perfect woulda won KOTR and honestly thought crush was gonna win IC belt which i feel he should have Attachment Deleted |

one of my fav events of all time loved all the matches. but was hoping mr perfect woulda won KOTR and honestly thought crush was gonna win IC belt which i feel he should have View AttachmentCrush was written off a few weeks later when he got squashed by Yokozuna. He had a legitimate back injury so it is likely they already knew he was hurting and weren't going to put the belt on him. He was over to a decent extent as a babyface, but was just missing that little something extra to give him that boost to reach the next level. |

Best one night performance from any wrestler in history in my opinion.
I have always enjoyed this show, one of my favorite King of the Ring events.

Just goofing, Bret's did have a great night at KOTR93. Three really good matches, one could even be considered an all-time classic. A really great night for Bret. |

One of my favorite events to go back and watch frequently. Bret's matches were very fun to watch.
