I feel like these big companies have turned to crowdfunding due to the demise of ToysRUs and KB. This is definitely part of the reason. There’s no retail home for most items like this anymore. And I know many of you have chimed in with various e-tailers but the reality is they just don’t take the sheer qty of units of something this massive and expensive to justify the tooling and development like a TRU would. These things are beasts to develop and run a campaign for. Companies really are trying to find ways to make this stuff happen despite some of the current ant-crowdfund sentiments. I agree 1000 percent with you Steve. Really looking forward to what you guys are bringing to Comic Con, hopefully Elite Early 90's Hogan with the Python Power Red Bandana, Elite 96 Head, No Tear Hulk Rules Shirt With The Winged Eagle Title Around His Waist MOC!!

Don't like crowd funds - don't participate. It makes no sense that some of you wouldn't want others to have the opportunity for more nuanced pieces we get from crowdfunds.

That wcw stage ruled just didn’t have enough backers ...yes - because, for one reason or another, not enough people wanted it. That's the thing - especially with any wrestling crowd-funds... I can't really think of ANY large scale item that a LOT of people (ie. to get funded) would want. I actually think the New Gen ring and entrance only got funded because of the Macho figure and Doink. And when you have to include some great figures to make the project worthwhile, it kind of misses the point of these large-scale items.

And when you have to include some great figures to make the project worthwhile, it kind of misses the point of these large-scale items. I made a post similar to this in the WCW Arena thread at the height of the discussion there, but I think the issue isn't only what people "want" as much as it's how wrestling collectors collect. For the first 15 years of wrestling figures existence, the only playset style piece was a ring. The Jakks Tron and ToyBiz Nitro Arena changed that, both both of those were aimed at play and functionality more than collectibility or displaybilty. Over the next two decades, even as the concept of collecting wrestling figures evolved to include a greater deal of adult collectors, playsets mainly remained aimed at the play-feature kids market. (Jakks and Mattel did go for collector level rings and the former did the HIAC and the EC). So the niche world of wrestling toy collecting has mostly developed in a way where most of those who collect display just the figures in detolfs or etc. outside of the smaller niche of a niche of photographers. So basically these huge playset crowdfunds, as cool as they are, have been for the niche of the niche collectors and essentially asking the rest of the wrestling collector niche (which is a small overall group anyway) to change up their whole way of collecting and displaying said collection. On the other hand, stuff like GI Joe, Transformers, Jurassic Park (even if they're not always funded) are aimed at collector bases that have had vehicles/playsets/large scale pieces built into the lines from the very beginning. Like don't get me wrong, there are several things that were questionable about the figure choices with the Nitro Arena, but I honestly believe any wrestling piece would have struggled, even the Raw stage or Smackdown fist, or whatever.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm kind of flabbergasted at the negative reaction to that JP crowdfund. I think it's pretty perfect for that line 🤷♀️

Personally, I love stages and larger quality items but I don’t think the wrestling collector community overall are willing to spend $400+ on anything The WCW stage was badass and I backed it and really wanted it to succeed but I can’t play dumb and act like $400+ is no big deal to people. Gas and groceries will eat up a budget these days on top of everything else

They shouldn’t do crowdfunds. how do you expect them to meet demand for play sets and entrance stage then

how do you expect them to meet demand for play sets and entrance stage then ...demand? so you're going to pretend you haven't seen people constantly asking for Hell In A Cell and the Elimination Chamber again, this is there only option since millinials closed Toys R Us in the US, also they could make a new Backstage Playset and other things that are overly expensive on EBay

And even then, there's a difference between liking/wanting something and the reality of having to actually pay for it... people were raving over the Nitro stage when they first saw it (before the crowd-fund was announced) - yet in reality, less than 4K people were willing to buy/back it.

But it was always going to be expensive... these things are. And the Nitro stage failing had nothing to do with them having released the New Gen entrance way and ring... they were totally different things being offered.

To be fair, Hasbro doesn’t ship to all international markets (Australia for instance), we have to use 3rd parties. But I completely agree with your points, it seems Mattel is just out of touch and/or unable to over come market conditions (costs, buyer demand etc.)! Not allowing international buyers until it’s backed likely has something to do with the costs involved in issuing refunds if the project doesn’t make it. Seems very short sighted, but i guess they’ve done the research. Crowd funds used to be for smaller/start up companies to help generate capital for projects. Failures are a part of the process, but the costs will be starting to build if this doesn’t get over the line for Mattel, with zero return. I feel like these big companies have turned to crowdfunding due to the demise of ToysRUs and KB. I agree to an extent, but with the volume of online shopping now, they have plenty of avenues to get “big box items” out to market. Seems most companies want the retailers and/or customers to wear the risk on development of “larger” scale items, this is new thinking when comparing historical ways of selling items. I also think there is larger problems with the whole approach with reissues and costs etc. but that’s a topic for another time. Fingers crossed the Jurassic Park Crowd fund makes it, I’ve got a buddy from Australia who’d back it tomorrow if he could, but isn’t allowed until it cracks 5k 🤷♂️🤦♂️

They can't get colors right( and idc what AFA says, it's the wrong color no matter what light you put that Cody under). What would make us think any crowd fund they do would succeed? To be fair (to me), I never said if the color was accurate or inaccurate. I just answered the question of why the color of the tights seemed different in different images. To be fair (to the ones who paid for it) if the color had been correct like in the digital render, you wouldn't have had all those questions/comments about it.
