Got a bunch of new figures recently.
3 of those been Jacy Jane Basic, Sonya and Rea Ripley Elites.
The Jacy Jayne head looks great and seems to be a good size. Sonya and Riley’s heads are small…almost squashed vertical looking.
It’s not just a basic compared to elite issue neither.
I just wish Mattel would get a size and stick too it.
Rea Ripley also seems small… she thick (with muscle) and her figure comes across as average female size even with new sculpting. I don’t know… just seem the balls being dropped somewhere.
Anyone else noticed this?

Seems like they go in a cycle of getting bigger and bigger, then they get a special project person that they really focus on and scale them right. That's when the shrink happens but it's likely the right scale and size, but with so many inflated heads along the way they seems small. It's the weirdest thing because you would think they keep checking the scale as they go with every head they make. Maybe something about loading templates and the overlay makes them a tiny bit bigger each time until they really check.
BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY. And a crackpot one at that...

I've noticed it too with a few figures over the years. Two in particular are the Elite 71 Kassius Ohno, and Elite 96 Hulk Hogan. Both have MASSIVE heads.
Every Chris Hero custom i see without the shirt, the head looks so odd because of how wide it is. Then for Hogan, really looking at it makes you realise how big it is. It's almost Jakks scale.
Both fantastic heads from a likeness standpoint, but damn they're big.

That new Eddie Abomination, the likeness is the only good thing about it but the scaling issues make him look like he has a pinhead.
Rhea... they need to rework her entirely. She's not the same size she was before. You can't use a standard womens body with her anymore and expect it to look right. Her shoulders are insanely broad now and yeah. They need to make a special torso scale mold just for her. They'll do it for the guys but they rarely ever want to do it with the women short of the big women who it would be extremely offensive if they made them skinny. (Like Nia and Piper.) It took us ages to even get a larger mold womens basic body that they can use for people like Tamina and Natalya now. They need to find a way to make a torso that fits Rhea before her next figure. Redo the head as well, yes, because I agree that the proportions on her head look weird. Like they took a head that would normally have hair covering the sides and then just left the hair off. It doesn't work without the long hair.
Yeah. Rhea needs a redo. Love her as a performer, and love to see her getting figures, but they need to do a lot more work to make *them* work.

Yeah I just don’t get it.
I was comparing the old Sonja Deville with the new one. The old one looks much better and the hard are completely different sizes.
I just wish they would pick a realistic scale and stick too it.
In some ways it feels Mattel are getting lazy with the quality or there just overworked and can’t keep up with the new releases. Either way they need to have a look at how they pick parts, size them and have some sort of unity of scale.

The new RA UE Lesnar appeals to have Beetlejuice syndrome. Same reason I passed on the UE Batista.

I'd much rather have a head on the smaller side than larger which I feel like is a big problem especially with the female figs. Shotzi is almost perfect if her head was smaller. They also have a no neck issue.

I’ve never gotten to see a Mattel Harley Race in person, but I hope he doesn’t look as much like a bobblehead as the pictures would lead me to believe.

Anyone have any idea why the hands are so large too? I popped Marvel Legends hands on some of my female figs, and it made the body look so much better.

Basics suck. Super skinny legs or comically large heads. Also disproportional bodies oh yeah no necks too Basics are a mess but sometimes their heads are a better option. Rhea for example I just picked up her basic head and tossed it on the elite and looks way better. I think thats sorta been Mattels long con on some figures, give basics better scans so you're forced to grab both if you want an accurate figure. To the OP yeah some of Mattel feels like reliving the Jakks era all over again. Colors messed up, scale all over the map, heads ballooning/not looking anything like the Superstar. When Mattel is on they're on but when they churn out crap we only got us to blame cause we still buy it and hope for better.
