I sent the message quoted below on the Q and A to Steve hoping to hear back from him. Tbh not sure how much he can help but he’s in a better position than me to answer these questions and get these issues fixed.
This seem to be coming a real problem and I’m wondering if anyone knows anything of the difficulties that Mattel seem to be having at this time. Anyway the comment below pretty much sums up the conversation, question and answers needed.
I know you don’t really distribution Steve but I have a couple of questions all relating to the same thing….
As a International collector… I’ve spent my morning searching EBay for Ruthless Aggression Elites and Store Exclusive Ultimates being sold in the states and even the scalpers are struggling to get ahold of anything. Then I’ve seen on here even Americans are having preorder Basics (of all things!) cancelled by the supplier saying Mattel have cancelled there shipment. Im worried not just for international collectors but all Mattel WWE collectors that this period of releases is going to become a dark time in collecting. With incredibly expensive and rare figures been from this period.
So… Has the “average/normal” quantity been produced and there stuck in transit somewhere? Did something happen to the shipping vessels? (pirates?) Are too many figures coming out and there’s a back log? Have you spread your factories too thin? If so will that backlog be fixed/honoured? UK customers have gotten Legends series for the 1st time with series 20 but now Americans are struggling to get series 20…why is this? Is there any plans to release Ruthless Aggression or Walmart/Target exclusives to UK retailers? There’s Walmarts in UK…why don’t they get the exclusives too? Is the Summerslam series this year coming to the UK like usual PPV build a figure sets do? Why was Brie Bella missed in the UK when releasing the Royal Rumble 2023 series (the baf collecting became useless)?
Do you worry that you will lose international collectors and over time then lose your foothold in the UK?
I send this message as a collector and because I care for the success of this line and for collectors (including me obviously). It’s getting tough out there and having to pay double/triple is hard enough pill to swallow never mind never having a option to purchase the figures. Let me give you money for a product please.

You can also search the Q&A thread for similar questions that he has answered before (offhand, I know he has stated before that they have and continue to push for Intl retailers to take on more exclusives). I can tell you that some of those questions he won't answer (pirates, factories being spread too thin, etc.) and honestly, he shouldn't/probably can't - we don't need to know everything that happens to the company. Most retail companies won't even prosecute fraud or shoplifting because they don't want the negative attention/publicity that it is happening at their company.

I just want to echo the OP... as another (long time) UK collector, it's coming to a point where I may just give up - it's becoming less and less fun and more of a headache. Collecting toy figures really shouldn't be this difficult(!).
I'd LOVE to actually buy Mattel's product (Ruthless Aggression Elite & Ultimates, MNW Elites & Ultimates, Superstars figures, various 3 & 4 packs etc)... none of it is available though. It's just so frustrating 😔.

I wouldn't let that stop you from collecting the whole line though. For example, I paid more for Torrie and Bischoff (through Paul) so I'm passing on Taker and SCSA. I wasn't too thrilled with their figures anyways, but I probably would have bought them all if I was able to order them from their website at normal prices. And you have a whole forum of people here that are willing to help pick up stuff at cost + shipping. As I mentioned, I don't have the best luck with Walmart and we are having our own issues, but if you need something that I come across there or Target (which I usually don't have a problem with), I can help pick stuff up.

I think that statement in the middle above is a big point that a lot of people miss about Walmart. Most metro areas seem to not have an adequate supply of Walmarts compared to more rural areas. I live in the northwestern portion of Wisconsin. I live in a town that has a population of just shy of 70K, with a couple smaller suburbs/townships adding another 24K, so roughly 94K population in the area. We are big enough for one Target and two Walmarts in the area - however the local wrestling figure collector base is not that big. So based on these numbers, I have 2 Walmarts, or one for every 47K group of people. I can drive 90 miles and get to the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area, and by my count, I see 16 Walmarts. But per a quick google search, the metro area of Minnapolis/St Paul has 3.69 million people living in it. So dividing that by the 16 Walmarts gives us 230,625 people per Walmart - which is just short of 5 times the amount. This is by no means scientific, but these are my findings: Rural Walmarts - 1 per 47K of people Metro Walmarts - 1 per 230K of people This certainly is also a factor of people trying to find these exclusives. And that is not counting the fact that Walmart has horrible distribution issues - not all stores are certainly not getting all of their exclusives. I am fortunate that it is rare for me to completely miss out on a Walmart exclusive in my local stores, simply due to the small size of the collector population. The ONLY one I can remember that did not come to town was the Walmart Retro series that had the Harley Race figure in it. Or the last basic figure series of that set (WCW set with Flair in business suit). Luckily another collector on here sent me a message that his town got in the basics that afternoon, and I drove 90 miles to get myself a set with an extra Flair or two. We did get the Decade of Domination two a couple years ago, but I missed the Kane & Mark Henry, but had a few other Walmarts near enough to make an afternoon of it to get them. But all of these are in smaller cities and larger rural towns. I do feel fortunate, but if I lived in a larger metro area, or outside the US where shipping is just completely horrendous, I would have curtailed my figure collecting a long time ago. I don't even know where the issue fully lays either, but I would put the bulk of it on Walmart distribution. Target doesn't seem to have nearly the problems that Walmart does. Apologies if this got a bit away from me and I rambled on a bit more than normal.

This might be both the best and most scientific post in the history of this board.

I still enjoy seeing new images and reading news plus commenting on things whether good or bad but honestly, giving up on Mattel last year as an intn'l collector has been one of the best decisions ever. It wasn't fun and was too expensive. Sold everything, switched to Funko and haven't looked back.

As an international collector I've come to terms with buying regular elites and ultimates online for a few extra bucks but at least I can get what I want with a little hard work. Stores here are next to useless. My biggest frustration is when it comes to Target and Walmart exclusives. We have Walmart here in Canada but they never seem to sell exclusives and we don't have any Targets. Both websites don't ship international so people like me have started using a shipping company to get them over the border which means we are paying an extra shipping fee plus whatever extra fees they charge. It's better than nothing but then when you add Walmarts notorious track record for canceling online orders it makes everything even more frustrating. At this point I'm all but done collecting as the added retail jump, extra cost for international and availability of products has pretty much taken most of the joy out of collecting. I'll most likely only buy the odd first time in the line from now on.

Apologies if this got a bit away from me and I rambled on a bit more than normal. This post is very good except for 2 things. 1. I'm trying to figure out how a city with 94K people in it qualifies as rural. 2. Having a walmart that's aimed at fewer people doesn't always mean better results. You could be like the walmart in the next town over where it's one walmart for 3000 people and they just don't get figures in at ALL. And what's going on at my walmart now (my only one here, aimed at all 13K people in my town) is the first time I've seen anything like it in the whole time I've been collecting. We have never before gotten any exclusive figures or lines, outside of the Hollywood ones, and for that, Piper was nowhere to be found.
So maybe it's less that "rural" walmarts have more luck and more that there is a happy medium place to reach where the walmart is populated enough to warrant getting the good figures, but unpopluated enough that you don't have a hundred thousand people going for them at once.

Said it earlier and will be repeating it again... I'm not collecting wwe stuff as much as I use too collect a couple of years back.... Making all the legends and alumni character US exclusive really hurt me. I have just move on to collecting Yamaguchi, Mafex and Jada toys stuff as they are easily available and major retailers have them.

As an international collecor, It is expensive and stressful. I only collect legends and the availability of these items being exclusives cost a fortune. I hope they can be avialable on the mattel creations website or anywhere it can be less difficult.

Don't put nothing on Mattel Creations, because they have put a block on my payment ever since I tried reloading the page when I tried to purchase the Muhammad Ali SDCC exclusive. It's been almost a month and these clowns still haven't gotten around to resolving my issue. I have been round in circles with them for the last three weeks. They have an automated computer message whenever you reply to their emails and knocked back to square one. Their customer service is a joke and the worse I have ever dealt with. They don't want to give me compensation for all the frustration this experience has caused me and so this is why they are dragging their feet. Don't put nothing on Mattel Creations because it's awful. If you need help with their customer service than you are straight up ed.

International collector based in Ireland. If you folks in the UK think you have issues getting stuff-you want to try my options out for size. Since the absolute disaster of brexit my options have been halved again because I can no longer buy from online stores in the UK. I use Amazon frequently(and its useful) but a lot of doors were closed to me because of the severe customs the EU imposed on the UK after that nonsensical decision.
Also? There are MANY speciality stores here in Ireland that get allsorts from Hasbro, Mcfarlane you name it....but CANT get legends etc from Mattel. I am good friends with the man who runs one of the biggest CBS here in Ireland and Mattel wont give him ANYTHING wrestling related. My friend Conor has been management in Smyths for some time now and says they are a very difficult to deal with in terms of what they want and what they can get.
so I call nonsense on them trying to get int retailers to take more stuff. Smyths have been asking for legends for the better part of a decade and told no. I was amazed they are getting them(it wont last because that wave is going to warm hard) and the "best of" series.

Well the reason overseas/Non US WalMarts don’t receive the exclusives is the same reason certain WalMarts in the states won’t carry them that’s because Walmart’s Corporate is in charge of what stores receive them and which doesn’t. If it’s not on the store’s planogram when corporate gives them the new resets the ware house isn’t going to send it to them.

...and why are Smyths charging a full £8 MORE for Legends figures than standard Elites? Where do they get this RRP from? Mattel? Now that I don't know but I agree it's ludicrous. I won't pay it. PJ are legends more expensive stateside than regular elites? I see they are already marked down too. No all Elites are the same price across the stores that sell them. The only ones that were ever more expensive that I can remember were Defining Moments (which technically aren’t elites they’ve never been called that) and the Toys R Us build a figure waves were more expensive but the modern PPV ones are not

Huh. Apparently legends are $1 more than normal elites. I had no idea this was a thing, probably because stores near me never have any of the regular elites in stock because distribution is so bad
