I got to thinking about this feud last night. George Steele was kind of seen as still a major attraction for the fans in the mid to late 80s, and only appeared on three PPVs. Wrestlemania 2 he wrestled, III he was in the corner of Steamboat and IV he was outside of the battle royal. But it got me thinking about Wrestlemania 2 and III.
He wrestled Savage at 2 and was in Steamboat's corner against Savage at III. Then I started thinking back to the SNME matches he was in with Savage...
Dec. 19th 1985 - Randy Savage pinned George Steele
Dec. 14th 1986 - Randy Savage pinned George Steele
Feb. 21st 1987 - Randy Savage beat George Steele by count out
April 28th 1987 - Randy Savage pinned George Steele
Four Saturday Night's Main Event matches between Randy Savage and George Steele. I wonder why those two kept crossing paths?? I get the whole George loved Elizabeth thing but to have that many matches between the two on national TV then was a bit unique and kind of uncommon.
The April 28th one especially, instead of getting a Savage vs. Steamboat rematch from III we get another Savage vs. Steele match.

It makes sense the match they had in April 87 as Steele did have a hand in Mach losing the belt at Mania. Like Jesse said ''Steamboat better cut that belt in half and give the one half to Animal Steele!''
But yeah they did face each other a lot during this time period. I guess Vince felt they had good chemistry plus Steele was over with the kids

As a kid I enjoyed this but geez they could have at least given the third count out victory to George

I always figured the coliseum collection would be Macho vs Steele for some reason. This feud looms large in my memory.

I always think of the WM II match when it comes to this feud with Susan St James in the booth...
''Come on George!''

We can both agree that the New York version of Wrestlemania 2 was easily the weakest match lineup for the fans, right??
Muraco vs. Orndorff ends in a double dq I believe it was, Snake Roberts beats Mr. G himself, George Wells, Savage over George and that horrible boxing match with T and Piper
Where as Chicago got to see an amazing tag title match plus the battle royal which is always exciting, and LA got Hogan and Bundy in the cage at least to enjoy.
