Feel free to name 1 or 5 or 10 or whatever you want if you think it's too hard to name only 1 match... but on that note what are you guys choosing?
I'd say 2002 was another great year for wrestling and one of the best ever despite the fact that The Attitude Era was ending, WCW and ECW officially gone for good, Austin walking out, Rock taking time off for movies again etc... there will still many great moments, matches etc.
I'm going with Rock vs Hogan as the match of year, one of my fav matches ever. That match will never get old.

Austin vs Taker Backlash
Austin vs Jericho NWO
HHH vs HBK SummerSlam and Armageddon
Austin and Rock vs NWO
Angle vs Rey SummerSlam
RVD vs Benoit SummerSlam
RVD vs Jeff Ladder match on RAW
Edge and Rey vs Angle and Benoit
Rock vs Brock SummerSlam
HHH vs RVD Unforgiven
Lesnar vs Taker HIAC
Edge and Rey vs Angle and Benoit vs Los Guerreros
There are many more that I'm forgetting but damn... what a crazy lineup!!

Rock vs Brock was a like another Rock Hogan in terms of crowd involvement. It was a passing of the torch, emotionally invested, bell to bell, drama filled, party match masterclass all in one. The Rock turning heel on the people in his off the air post match promo was the icing on cake.

Quite a good amount of quality matches to choose from but HBK/HHH SummerSlam I'm a biased HBK mark

Rock vs Angle vs Undertaker and Vengance is the greatest triple threat match the WWE has ever done in my opinion.
Undertaker vs Brock (both matches), HBK vs HHH at SummerSlam, The Elimination Chamber, RVD vs Eddy at Backlash, Rock vs Hogan at WrestleMania and Eddy and Chavo vs Edge and Rey all sprung to mind when I thought of 2002 and I am sure if I think about it more, I could probably do a top ten for this year as it was so stacked.

Jericho vs Austin @ NWO Rock vs Hogan @wm18 UT vs Flair DeadmanRock vs Angle vs Undertaker VengeanceHBK vs HHH @ SSlam02 RVD vs Benoit @sslam 02 Undertaker vs Brock @ No Mercy Edge, Rey vs Angle/Benoit @ No Mercy Elimination Chamber @sseries02 Hardy, Bubba & Spike vs 3 Minute Warning & Rico @sseries 02 BUT I think my favorite is Brock vs UT. Uts hardway gusher from Brocks botched steps shot added so f*cking much to this. Then there's the real life drama where Vince was telling the ref to tell UT to "go home" & He wouldn't...and he was literally wiping the bl;ood out of his eyes. EPIC. It was the makings of Lesnar too...this is the match that got him genuine top dog status. |

For me that's the greatest opening match of any WWE PPV, it was just all go from first bell. This really started the tag team title potential for me, once you put Rey with Edge and Angle & Benoit together and threw in the Guerrero's you had classics that are still some of the greatest tag matches WWE ever put on.
No wonder Smackdown was so good late 2002 with that and Taker/Lesnar's angle.
