i tried to watch this match again and had to fast forward a hundred times.
sorry, but this match is long and boring no matter what kind of story they were trying to tell.
itd have been better with each having 3-4 falls at the end and we get to see who gets the final fall.

I like it, but there was too many rest hold sequences. An hour was too long for what they actually did, it's not a bad match but it's not one of my all timers.

I’m a fan of this one personally (although never liked it at the time). Great storytelling in the match and only downfall for me was the overtime nonsense.
I do think for mass appeal it was the wrong era for this type of match. If it were 10 or 15 years earlier, fans would have lapped it up. Or a few years later it would have gotten away with a few falls, distractions and general attitude chicanery that would have kept fans entertained (or at least distracted) through lulls in the match. In 1996 though (and with the egos and tensions involved) it was never going to be the high regarded classic all involved hoped it would be.

Def agree with if this was 30 mins plus it wouldve been great. The match itself is fine and I get what they were going storytelling wise with the tie at the end but it is a chore to sit through
I do like at the end when Bret walks to the back after losing in OT, you can see the seeds planted for his heel turn a year later
