We’re getting into ridiculous territory with cost cutting. If it weren’t for retailers demanding the price be low. We have figures with half painted dress shirts, unpainted knees, and missing tattoos. This 2008 Jakks already? Jk, but kinda serious… Honestly, seeing as how that Rock figure is designed to leave the shirt on, and comes with all his accessories that *aren't* painted on, I can kind of see where, if they had to cut one thing from this entire set to keep it within budget, that would be the thing to cut. I think pretty much everyone who has this set would rather The Rock not have his tattoo then Rocky missing his robe or High Chief Peter missing his headpiece. I mean, I don't know how much money in the overall budget not adding that tattoo would save, but for me, it would be the one detail to omit that isn't the end of the world. |

But honestly, this would be an interesting point to know what the profit margin of Mattel WWE figures is per figure because, as I've said in another thread, with the price of everything in every single economic sector going up wildly, Mattel figures have stayed relatively constant in price. Outside of when Walmart was selling Elites for 5 dollars under intended retail (I believe they were still 20 bucks at Target all that time), the price of Elites hasn't risen nearly as high as everything else. So maybe it's a case that Mattel is choosing to cost cut rather than price raise in the hopes that the casual collectors will still buy the figures at the same price rather than raise the price and lose a ton of buyers over the return of fully detailed figures. Not trying to make excuses as much as play devil's advocate. If what we've always been led to believe about action figures sales is true, then I'd expect the average action figure collector would rather pay 23 dollars for a good elite than 30 dollars for a slightly better one with added detail that may not matter to them. They gave us the Ultimate Edition line. That's for the collectors and, while there have been mis-steps, big ones even, the UE figures have more detail, add-ons, and features because the higher cost point allows for them. But someone in another thread said that the Ronda Rousey Top Picks figure was essentially the same as her Ultimate Edition, minus the extra parts, and really I think that's more a statement on how good some of the Elites have gotten vs a criticism of how bad UE's have gotten. ETA: I'm saying all this as a Kevin Owens fan who has been infuriated for years now that no two figures have the same tattoo layout on them. I will defend Mattel in their choices, but figures like KO and Orton... I get that there are a lot of tattoos there but it can't be that hard to figure out where the dinosaurs go, put the letters on the correct knuckles, and have the names facing the right direction. Please. It can't be that hard. Please. Please. |

Picked one up at Walmart today, they had 4, the Rocky Johnson is a major upgrade from the previous release and Maivia looks great.
