Been listening to some Bruce Pritchard stuff recently and he mentioned how WM XIX was originally expected to be HHH/Steiner for the world title when they signed Scott back in the fall.
We know this is probably true due to Booker’s sudden feud with HHH, but my question is how the hell do they actually get there for a third match? Let’s assume the WWE books Steiner better and fans don’t turn on the feud. There’s no way in hell HHH was dropping that belt to anyone at that time. So they do the DQ finish at the Rumble. Going into NWO you can’t pull the same crap again so one man has to win. HHH wins and Steiner’s credibility is dead, whether he lost clean or by cheating. We know Steiner wasn’t winning the belt either so that option is out the window.
Anyone have any ideas how they could have dragged this feud out another month to WM assuming the fans didn’t turn on it? Or anyone think this is more BS from Bruce and believe the feud was always going to be a “two-month stop” for HHH on the road to WM?

Smells like BS to me from ol' Brother Love
If they did get a 3rd match outta this feud it wouldve had to been in a cage or a LMS. Something along those lines. No way could it be a regular match

The only way that would have worked is if Triple H, Batista and Flair wrestled Steiner and we'll say the Dudley Boyz in a six man tag match at No Way Out and Steiner pinned Triple H in that match.
With that being said, Smackdown already had that going on with Kurt and Team Angle vs. Lesnar, Benoit and Edge at that event. Even though Edge got taken out before the match, it was still set up to be a six man tag match.
I feel they rushed Steiner vs. Triple H too. Wasn't Steiner not even 100% for the Royal Rumble match?? It seems that Steiner just wasn't over or had the wrestling ability during that WWE run like he had just two years earlier in WCW.

I'm surprised they made it to a 2nd match tbh. Both men had zero chemistry together.
Their segments were cringe and matches sucked, I liked both guys but their feud was painful.

If they had a 3rd match at WM, I'd make it a Street Fight with HHH going over.
It's a good thing that we didn't get a 3rd match anyways lol.

I will say this about the Steiner vs. Triple H feud... that music video package at the Royal Rumble to the song "Stronger" by Trust Company
That video made you hyped for the match you were about to see. Then that match happened and well.... that was a different story all together

Steiner not being 100% and Trips working through a hamstring injury or something of the sort at the time was just awful for Raw all around.
The posedowns and push up contests every week were incredibly awful to watch. They killed all of Steiners momentum from the moment he challenged for the World Title and signed with Raw.
Kind of interesting to think if WWE did send him to SD we may have gotten Brock/Steiner or Angle/Steiner which if done right both could have been interesting.
But Raw in 2003 was becoming WCW 2.0, you had Goldberg, Nash, Steiner, Jericho, Flair, Booker T, Lance Storm, Stacy, Bischoff, Jindrak, etc...

If you only ever watched those two videos you’d think the feud was one of the greatest of all time.

Regardless of the show he was on, making Steiner a face was 100% the wrong move. I’ve always felt if Steiner was placed on Smackdown that his run would have been completely different. They had plenty of workhorses that could have helped hide his injury from the start, and feuds with Brock, Angle, Benoit, and Guerrero would have exceeded the crap we got with HHH.

Yes!!
Those 2 videos, the video hyping HBK and Undertaker for their second WM match in 2010 and the Survivor Series 2002 Saliva videos are my top 4 videos for watching when hyping matches.

There's no way they get to a third match. BS from Prichard. JR said it too but reckoned a tag match vs Evolution was on the cards for NWO. But then the RR match stunk & Vince wanted it done & dusted.

Even if the Rumble match wasn’t a disaster, I have a feeling they’d have still fast-tracked the second match here considering Angle was so messed up at the time. Either way Steiner was screwed the moment they had him walk out to challenge HHH at the height of his reign of terror.

2003 Steiner has gotta be the most drastic change of fan reaction for a guy's entrance versus his match.

when you look at the WM19 promotional video? Steiner is a heavy part of it. Then he isn't even on the show..

They should have had a battle royal with the guys who weren't on the PPV on that PPV. But we needed that cat fight between the ladies on a bed I believe it was.
Scott Steiner, Test, Christian, The Hurricane, RVD, Kane, Lance Storm, Chief Morley, Tajiri, Jamie Noble, Billy Kidman, John Cena, Tommy Dreamer, Goldust, Rosey, Rico, Spike Dudley, Bubba Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley, Maven, Chuck Palumbo, Funaki, etc.
There was quite a few guys that could have benefited from a battle royal at that event, and still enough big enough names in it to make it interesting.

It’s the WWE so of course Steiner got the blame for that feud, but it’s hardly brought up that HHH was working injured as well, and outside of working with HBK, his matches were pretty abysmal throughout 2003. Would have been super easy to book them in an 8-10 minute street fight at the Rumble, but instead we got a near-20 minute regular match that bombed. You’d think they’d have learned their lesson from this feud, but just a few months later we were getting Goldberg in near-20 minute matches too.
I still don’t see how they drag this feud out to WM19 if it started when they did. If they wanted HHH/Steiner at WM19, why not have HHH/Booker T at the Rumble and then start the feud with Steiner? Either way Scott was screwed because nobody was taking the belt from Hunter. Only chance Steiner had was being placed on Smackdown where he could work with Angle, Benoit, Guerrero, Lesnar, ect… who could help to hide his weaknesses in the ring.
