So today is Halloween and it got me thinking about the great NWA/WCW PPV event, Halloween Havoc.
I thought it would be fun to just have a thread here on what everyone's favourite matches or memories were of this cool event.
For me it's this...
WCW Halloween Havoc 93 was the first Halloween Havoc PPV I ever saw after a friend taped it for me and gave it to me.
Halloween Havoc 95 was the first Halloween Havoc I ever rented from a video store.
Halloween Havoc 96 was the first Halloween Havoc I ever watched live on PPV.
Halloween Havoc 92 is a personal favourite of mine to watch every once in a while.
Nasty Boys vs. Steiners from Halloween Havoc 90 must be seen by every wrestling fan ever!
Halloween Havoc 91 on paper looked decent but when watching it was pretty bad.
Who else has great memories or favourite moments from this event??

My fav WCW PPV with the best set designs
The first one in Philly will always be my fav from the lot. Great main event and you got a hidden gem with Luger/Pillman

I worked at DirecTV during Halloween Havoc '98. Holy crap, the sheer amount of abusive, belligerent, angry wrestling fans that called in when WCW cut the feed at the beginning of DDP VS. Goldberg was nuts. I got called LOTS of fun names, accused of deliberately ending the show just because I felt like it, and all sort of other insane ramblings.

I like the Halloween aesthetic so that was always a winner for me. I mentioned it during RWN that WWE not using this for their October PPVs was always puzzling to me. I know they liked to downplay most things WCW, but this should have been the exception. Nice to see the name is still alive even if it's just for NXT.

I can never take my eyes off the stage. I find myself going back to watch these shows, even the bad ones. Not just due to the halloween theme but because of how amazing the sets are.

I just finished watching the first 4 Halloween Havoc's (1989-1992) and I gotta say, not a lot of good stuff. Very surprised that there were so many sloppy matches. Also, probably not a good thing to hold the event in The Brain 's backyard... the fans basically crapped on everything the babyfaces did. The only good guys that got good reactions in the first one were the Road Warriors, Sting, Flair and the Midnight's, everyone else got booed. Same thing with the event held in 1992, a lot of cheering for the bad guys, and the poor babyfaces couldn't do anything to get a reaction. Same thing happened in Chicago for the second year (1990), bad guys got cheered, and the babyfaces got booed - with the exception of guys like the Steiners and Sting. In the Doom vs. Flair/Arn match, Doom were playing the good guys, but Arn and Flair got the cheers. Gotta call Schiavone out for the 1991 show, he gave away the reveal that Rude was the phantom. When Rude hit the Rude Awakening, instead of saying that the move looks very familiar, he actually said that the move was the Rude Awakening, very strange. The 1992 version was probably my favorite, but that was probably because I started watching WCW during that time and remembered a lot of the performers. Though, just like back then, I still feel they relied too heavily on their partnership with the Japanese wrestling promotion. The fans didn't really seem that interested in anything that was going on with the Japanese wrestlers; for the Rude/Chono match, the audience was very quiet, it's like they didn't know who to cheer for, so they just started chanting "we want Flair". Never a good sign. I did like that Rude gave the audience his hip swiveling move when they started that chant, he basically aimed it at the guys in the front row who were the loudest. It also goes to show you where WCW was at the time, they spent all that money designing and building the spin the wheel make the deal sign, but they didn't gimmick it to fall on an exciting match listed, it fell on perhaps the most boring match possible on the sign... Best matches from these four were: Steiner Brothers vs. the Nasty Boys Flair & Anderson vs. Doom Sting vs. Sid Vicious - though the ending was terrible Stunning Steve vs. Dustin Rhodes Lex Luger vs. Ron Simmons - much better than I thought it would be The thunderdome and chamber of horrors matches were fun, but the Thunderdome match was really sloppy, and the Chambers match was too cumbersome to really be good. Also, for the 1992 show, the announcers were Jesse and JR, while they did well together, I can see what Jesse was talking about. Jesse would set Ross up with a joke or two, but instead of biting on it like he would do later on with Lawler, JR would just move on to calling what was happening in the match. The few times that he actually responded to one of Jesse's lines; he got a good chuckle out of Jess.

I just watched Goldberg vs Sid from HH99 today and I was very impressed. Great stiff brawl, good lead in with Sid already being busted open & the blood stoppage finish was very effective because Sid sold the hell out of it.
Overlooked & recommended

Watched 1993 and 1994 shows this week. Two good shows, I think out of all of the events so far (1989-1994), 1993 might be my favorite. Some good matches on that one, I think the only stinker was the opening match, everything else was good. The 1994 event wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it was actually pretty good. The Hogan/Flair match was really good. Still can't believe that Vince didn't get this rivalry going in the WWF while he had the chance. The crowd at the 1994 event went crazy for everything these two guys did.

Also, it's pretty amazing, Hogan got a huge ovation at this event, however, back in 1991 when he faced the Undertaker, he didn't. Wrestling fans are fickle.
