Why’s everyone so down on rereleases? If you don’t need it, skip it? Because they feel like it’s going to ruin the secondary market price on their toy.

I think that’s ultimately what bothers them, even if they don’t want to admit it. The reality is that the greatest hits Ultimate line is meant to be a re-release line anyways. So it’s not as if it’s taking a spot away from a potential new figure.

Why’s everyone so down on rereleases? If you don’t need it, skip it? I think people are down on the choices for re-releases (Stone Cold, Undertaker, Hogan) rather than re-releases in general... As others have pointed out, the UE Demon Balor would be ideal for a re-release - especially with updated/butterfly joints. An updated S5 Cena would be great too.

If they update Hogan's skin tone then those are both good picks for redos imo. I honestly wish they'd update the skin tone and then add the Hollywood Rules shirt from the 3-pack so the Ultimate is Starrcade 97. That's a figure I'd absolutely go out of my way to get signed. Wishful thinking, I know. 👆 100%

What I’m starting to learn with mattel is this
Don’t buy it on its first release, if it’s something that’s even remotely worth anything - they will release it again down the road when they can (And if it rotted shelves in first release they will still re-release it cause hey, why not)
Ringside exclusive punks, you’re next.
But 90s WWF Steiners? Y’all gotta wait - there’s to many re-releases they’ve got to do 😂😂😂

Rereleases are great for people who are just getting into the line or missed out the first time. Let's keep in mind this line is 13 years old. Lot of people jumping on and off in those years.

Love the “you’re not putting your kid through college selling wrestling figures line”. No one here claims that. What most collectors DO in fact want in collections (not just wrestling - all hobbies) is rarity. Stand out pieces for a collection. That’s all I’m saying. That’s part of the fun in collecting is getting those hard to find or rare individual figures. Like card or comic collectors - no one wants just a ton of base cards or standard issue comics. It seems like Made to order mattel creation figures are probably the only thing that’s in the safe category of not being remade.

I'm always down for a re release. That way I wouldn't have to rely on TN's inventory. Even though I just had to rely on TN for a purchase. Dammit man it's a double-edged sword.

It seems like Made to order mattel creation figures are probably the only thing that’s in the safe category of not being remade. That's a flawed analogy IMO, because the only figures in the Mattel line that are comparable to numbered cards or variant comics are hard-capped limited figures like the New Gen Arena or Mattel Creations figures. Everything else is essentially an "open edition" and by default equivalent to "base cards or standard issue comics". Now obviously, some figures will become "rarer" by default because a talent or gimmick doesn't warrant another release/leaves the company/etc. but having the expectation that a general release figure can never be rereleased is a flawed mindset. To tie back to the comics mindset, it's the equivalent of thinking that a story will never be reprinted in any format. That's not to say that some rereleases don't bother me, but to me it's purely about options of looks vs "rarity." For example - and I'm sure Steve could swoop in here and explain why financially it actually makes no sense to do this - a straight Hollywood Hogan re-release would bug me because that exact figure could easily be repainted with different deco and a different design on the shirt.

I just think its a brainless move to put out UE Taker in this set, a figure that overall isn't that well executed and was available at retail price forever. While there are a handful+ of UEs that would be much better use of the UE Greatest Hits line.

if you're spending money on producing these figures for re-releases....why not just change them to make them better/different versions. I really don't understand the point of re-releasing Ultimates when we're not even 20 sets in.
It made sense for a few like Lesnar/HBK because those figures never made it to mass retail, and some of the earlier ones that clearly weren't produced as much as the current waves because they weren't sure how the line would do
Hollywood Hogan was on Ringside for like $20 at one point. Literally everyone who wanted one, got it. It barely goes for more than original retail on the secondary market. There is ZERO demand for this figure.
If they gave him a slightly different look, updated the skin tone, removed the ridiculous boa that nobody wanted and just made it a new series you'd get more buyers. We really weren't at the point of needing MORE re-releases when Ultimates are still new.

Rarity is delusional, and companies that force scarcity on a line often end up alienating their own buyers. (Hi, Jazwares!) Like, I don't even think that's right about a lot of wrestling figure collectors. I collect wrestlers I like. I want to own as many versions of them as it's feasible to get, and rarity or aftermarket value aren't things I consider beyond my own budget for this. I collect comics too! But, you know, to read. Because they're books.
