Last night I randomly watched Randy Orton vs Mick Foley from Backlash 2004 and I forgot what a fun and brutal match this was!
I am not a Randy Orton fan at all, I feel like he has phoned it in and been average at best for at least half of his career, but hey he has his fans and most wrestlers say he is fantastic to work and even though I am not a fan, he has 100 percent had a hall of fame career and the guy looks like a million bucks.
Anyway, the Evolution and Legend Killer era Randy was awesome and this match is some of his best work. I am not just talking about the absolute brutal beating that he took. The RKO reversed into the thumbtacks is awesome! His selling in this match is incredible stuff and really sells the match and makes you feel like he is fighting for his life. I also forgot who slimed down and good shape Foley got in for this match, he looks better here than when he won the title in 98!
It was the first time I had seen this match in years and it is one of the best hardcore bouts the WWF/E has ever done. I know we do not discuss much modern wrestling here. But this match is a prime example of how you can be brutal and violent, but still tell a story and not just be random acts of violence.
What are your thoughts on this match and if you have not seen it in years like I had not, I highly recommend that you give it a watch.

I remember watching it live when it happened and how shocked I was at the brutal bloody beating Randy took in that match from Mick. That match made Randy Orton a main event superstar.
I watched it a few years ago to show my girlfriend the match since she was only familiar with Randy Orton of the last 10 years. So I showed her that and forgot how amazing that match was for story telling, brutality, and drama.
Definitely easily one of the best matches in 2004 and probably the best match off a non 4 big PPV event.

Definitely Orton's greatest ever match. It was a five star masterpiece

I remember it being excellent. No doubt Foley's best match post 2000 ''retirement''
Was never a big Orton fan but he played the the ''Legend Killer'' gimmick to perfection during this era

First off the match was almost 20 years ago so it certainly meets the 10 years criteria to be posted here. It was an excellent match. And I have always been an Orton fan. Of that crop who came out of OVW (Orton, Brock, Cena, Batista, etc) he was my favorite.

Love the match. Foley still had it but give credit to Orton as well for keeping up with the hardcore legend.
I’ve never been a fan of Foley/Edge at WM22. I feel Foley/Orton blows it out of the water.

This match single-handedly legitimized Orton and made him a made man.

Yup as Dude Love the Vince kiss ass he was an awesome opponent for the newly crowned Austin. He also helped HBK. That match @ Mind Games showed us a much sharper, tougher HBK than what we had seen from his previously in his title reign.
