Forewarning - I'm crap at taking pics.
So I got the LA Knight basic and as I suspected, such a simple change but so much of an upgrade for basics. I've always kept basics to an absolute minimum outside of the females because legs together, holding in a piss design really is so archaic. I was a Jakks collector back in the day and it took me almost a decade to get back into wrestling figures after Mattel took over (I just couldn't start again). I always thought basics were Mattel's version to continue things for Jakks collectors (not realising the scale difference) until I got into collecting figures again back around 2019 (urgh, right before the pandemic lockdown made everyone want to do it).
Anyways, if they never upgraded these hips for the 2024 line, I probably begrudgingly pick up LA Knight. He needs to be in the collection, he's skyrocketed into things this year. But damn, I am so so glad Mattel started with their new artic scheme. I've never been a super fan of hyper articulation (toe joints, to me, are overkill), so losing a few points here and there I don't really give much of a crap about is fine by me, but hip joints just allow for a proper stance, and a few accessory upgrades I can take care of easily enough, makes this super worth the time.
Sure, I'll likely get the Elite. But I don't even see the basic as a placeholder now. While my Bron Breakker basic sits in a tub following his monumental Elite upgrade, this LA Knight basic ain't going anywhere. If I get the Elite, I'll shuffle around, but this one stays in my display for sure.
As crap as some of Mattel's decisions and executions are... this one BASIC thing they have done right, it's just a shame it took them over a decade to do it.
Now, I just need a pointing finger right hand that matches his damn skin tone!
