If Vince and Austin had actually been in the ring the entire time, and Vince had managed to eliminate Austin by himself without help from The Rock This strikes me as a huge misunderstanding of not only this match and storyline, but of pro wrestling overall. What on earth would be gained by Vince McMahon - who at that point was a non-wrestler running scared from Stone Cold Steve Austin - spending the entire match in the ring and then beating Austin without help? |

Its bad but I'd say 2015 and even 2022 are worse. I think history will prove more and more that the 2022 Rumble was just atrocious. 2022 & 2015 both sucked |

Nah, it was all about the Austin/McMahon story which was the hottest thing in wrestling at the time and led to one of my all time favorite matches, the cage match at St Valentines Day Massacre. As mentioned, 95 was pretty sh**. Then you have 2015, which didn’t suck because Roman won regardless of what anyone tries to tell you, but sucked because it was booked so badly throughout. Honestly every Rumble from 2011- 2015 was pretty bad. So I wouldn’t put the 1999 on in even the top 10 worst. Very good points. The 99 Rumble buy rate was huge and it all made sense storyline wise... I just thought it could have been much better. The Rumble match was just bad. |

There isn't a sane person alive could say that about RR95 Lol very true. 95,96,99 all sucked but HBK winning saves 95&96 for me. Austin should have won in 99 & still continued the Vince feud. I will say that the crowd in 99 was hot during the Rumble. |

This is one of my absolute favorites!
Whats funny about that though is at the time, this Rumble made me watch WCW for a few weeks and I missed WrestleMania because I was THAT mad lol. I never knew that Austin beat McMahon at St Valentines Day Massacre to get the title shot, I was done with WWF over this lol. I came back when I heard Austin won at Mania.
But looking back at it, the weeks leading up to this with the McMahon vignettes, the Corporate Rumble. Man….i love this era. The very idea that I got THAT mad that Austin lost shows how invested I was in it. Thinking about it makes me want to buy some TItantron Live figures and play WWF Attitude lol.

I have seen it all now and feel like a schmuck that I started watching WCW in absolute anger haha. But at that time, I remember being SO mad that Austin was made a fool of, lol I literally didn’t watch it again until after Mania. That’s awesome though. I use to talk about wrestling with my friends at school. One of our great debates was which console had the best wrestling games, and my friend swore N64 did. I eventually got an N64 and Revenge and I ate my words every day haha. He was indeed right. |
