As I’ve got older, I’ve tried (with complete success) to not care about booking decisions and just enjoy the product as an entertainment show. I prefer it this way.
What I will say is this - about 5 years ago, I’d be livid right now. That whole segment made Cody look ridiculously dumb. He wants that title - they’ve made it clear the whole time - but he’s willing to back away (despite winning the Rumble) because The Rock gave him some good advice?
It’s just shoddy booking that weakens Cody and makes his story look disposable. Also adds the undercurrent of Cody likely beating Rollins four times on four PLEs since his return.
Regardless, I’ll be watching Mania and enjoying it like I do every year.

Soooo is Seth defending the title in the Elimination Chamber? If not, then what are they going to do?

Welp…another year of Roman keeping the title and only defending it a handful of times…ho-hum.

Soooo is Seth defending the title in the Elimination Chamber? If not, then what are they going to do? You will take Cody and Awesome Truth vs Judgement Day inside the Chamber and you will like it

Like, why should I give a flying about Cody’s story now?

I would say that Cody (the man) is gutted about this. These are the kind of decisions that made him disillusioned in the first place. They gave him 2 Rumbles in a row for the first time in 2 decades just to cuck him on live television.
Don’t forget the ripple effect of this decision also. The likes of McIntyre who has been putting in some of the best work of his career & likely could have arrived on the WHC picture at Mania will now take a back seat as a result.

honestly, I wonder if this confirms Cody would’ve lost had he actually faced Reigns
they probably changed the plans due to Punk getting injured, but I could be wrong, Idk
could’ve been the plan all along, who knows

Was this what Rock meant when he said he wanted to do something never done before? Taking the Royal Rumble winners main event away? Lmao.

Rock probably refers to Cody as “Goldust’s little brother.”

This is stupid. One of the least logical booking decisions ever. Cody willingly giving his wrestlemania main event to Rock? And he just said that he’s coming for Roman and the title, BUT NOT AT MANIA??!?? WHY THE NOT?! YOU WON THE ING ROYAL RUMBLE!!!! See how history repeats itself? The top guy in the company is sitting there waiting to get anointed as the top guy and they’re gonna give it to a 50 year old Dwayne Johnson who won’t be there the night after Mania. Vince isn’t there but that culture ain’t changing, especially with this booking.

Seth vs Cody for a 4th time is a nothing match to me. Even with the World title on the line. So lets get nuts. Cody challenges Gunther and goes into WM 41 Ultimate Warrior style vs Roman.

Relax people. Cody will get his title shot. Just not at WM and not versus Roman. Cody is going to finish his silly story but beat the Rock. At Summer Slam. Roman finally loses (and is protected in a way), Rock gets his final spotlight at WM, then Cody goes over against the Great One. I called it a week ago ... just thought Rock would've gone heel.

The E has had a lot of "greatest of all time" stories recently (Roman's and Gunther's respective title reigns, Gunther lasting the longest ever in last year's Rumble, Rhea lasting longest ever last year and then Bayley breaking it this year, stuff like that), so it wouldn't surprise me if they're leading up to Roman breaking Hogan's record.
The problem is you're building these guys up so high that no one will ever be good enough (on paper) to beat them. It's painting yourself into a corner as much as it is painting them as the greatest.
Roman, for instance, has one match a year he can lose now, and that's exclusivly at WrestleMania. We knew when he beat Cody last year that he'd have the title another 365 days at the very least.
Roman versus Rock is a dream WrestleMania match, but the timing is unfortunate. And for Cody it must really suck.

Reigns retains at Mania, Hogan returns over the summer and says Reigns defeating his title reign length just isn’t gonna work for him brother, and challenges him for the title at SummerSlam
