According to some people on here, “items value increases” shouldn’t happen. Toys shouldn’t increase in value and no one pays the increased value… And nobody should bank on that happening either. No one ever said to bank on it happening…

No one ever said to bank on it happening… Yet also saying people shouldn't deny the money-making opportunities that lie in mass produced plastic people Opportunities sounds like a scalper thing. It's more like there is a possibilities. There's a possibility in any collectible gaining value. That is what happens in the world of collecting. For some reason, this is the only group denying that. It's like Pokemon cards, Marvel Legends, even stamps can increase in value, but wrestling figures are off limits.

I haven’t read into every post in this thread, but from what I’ve gathered…
The consensus is that while any collectible can gain value (such as grading, etc) the value of wrestling figures is set by the market alone. If buyers weren’t shelling out $100 for a figure, sellers wouldn’t be asking $100 for a figure.
Especially loose figures. Some of the asking prices on the secondary market are ridiculous.
On topic: Just noticed Dudley’s are the only ones on back-order… 1. DAMN 2. Interesting

"Hey Google, what is a synonym for opportunity?"
Hmm, fascinating...

The value of any collectible is based off of scarcity, demand, and/ or what someone is willing to pay for it. And what prices are ridiculous? Are you saying $100 is too much? $200? Are you talking about something like the Road Warriors going for nearly $250? This is what I am talking about when I say that the wrestling figure collector group is not willing to spend money. These figures came out years and years ago. They should absolutely appreciate in value. And, if anything, that is actually a good thing for the line because it shows that Mattel made a quality product that people are still interested in years later.

"Hey Google, what is a synonym for opportunity?" Hmm, fascinating... When you say opportunity, I think of opportunist. A scalper is an opportunist. A collector that simply wants their figures to hold value, and/ or appreciate it value, may have the possibility down the line of making a few dollars. Not something harmful like a scalper. Yes, opportunity and possibility are synonyms, but don't I don't want scalpers and collectors possibly making money at some point to be considered synonyms.

Based on this thread I'll put this idea here. I really want the chase black card hart foundation figures coming out soon. If anyone gets them I'll pay cost plus shipping no questions. Just let me know

Majority of the peoples complaints seem to be from the ones who purchased at those ridiculous prices. That's their fault.
To the ones that are upset that their toy isn't gonna be of value as much, tough shit. Should've moved it sooner if that was your intentions from the start.
To the ones who never got the chance to have said figure, enjoy it at retail prices. Because more are coming!
And to the ones that have the original, AND are happy of the re releases like myself, now we can get a loosey loosey of a better figure!

Wow, just caught up on this thread! I was in surgery Wednesday when this post was made and it was the first thing I saw when I was in the recovery room. Just tonight I had the head to read thru it all. Thank you guys for keeping it all on topic, I'm glad there was no major fighting that had this get shut down. Let me chime in. I've been here since the beginning of the Mattel line, I do own most of these figs. Value never meant much to me. If I wanted it when it was released I bought it. The Kane though, that one I held off on for too long, and simply missed out. So glad I'll have a chance at owning an upgraded version of it. A lot of collectors missed out on the Elite 7 DX, it'll be cool to see people have the chance to get these upgraded versions now. Listen, I get both sides of it, but the originals will always be the originals to me. I remember the night I found Elite 7 back in the day but you know what? A chance to get those guys again will be awesome. I'll gladly take the vault versions too. I don't look too much into the whole secondary market value thing. I never sell anything I have so I guess that's why. Shameless plug but if the guys at Ringside have an extra vault set they want me to review/promote, this OG Mattel mod/board day 1 collector would gladly help!

This a nonsensical take. Action figures aren’t “trophies” given for an achievement, they’re a product. Collecting from the start of the line isn’t an “achievement” to be “rewarded” by early figures not being re-released. Also, the part of this that people keep ignoring is that the original figures, especially MOC, aren’t going to depreciate in value and if anything will become more “collectible” but that doesn’t fit the narrative. I actually disagree with that opinion. Collectors that were part of the beginning should be rewarded as they were the ones who kept the lines going. Yeah they’re getting rewarded with better versions of the stuff they had 10-15 years ago, which now looks like crap and is less articulated than modern figures

If that were true, the secondary values wouldn’t be as high. Just look at the Road Warriors, the Von Erichs, the first Rikishi and elite Luke Harper (which is what we got into the line in the first place). These figures still hold up as do many others. You simply cannot make a blanket statement that says the old versions look like crap.

I’m happy for you or sorry that happened

I’m happy for you or sorry that happened There’s a difference between “15th year” versus “15 years ago.” FYI: 2023 was 1 year ago, 2022 was 2 years ago, 2021 was 3 years ago… 2009 was 15 years ago. Mattel’s first products hit shelves in 2010… not 2009. Either way, I appreciate the disrespect of not reading the rest of what I wrote. It seems more like a cop out for not wanting to acknowledge that Mattel made solid figures in their early years that still hold up.
