More WM stuff during its season... 3 weeks away from WM40!
What do you guys think of WM10? I'd say its a good watch tbh. I'd probably rank it somewhere in the middle. It's not the best or worst, but maybe top 15-20-25 overall when it comes to WrestleMania.
This show featured two of the best matches in the business's history... HBK vs Razor & Bret vs Owen. The best Ladder match & best WM opener for me. Those matches really up the value for WM10.
Great crowd, great commentary, Savages last WM, Bret winning the WWF Title in the main event...Good show in the end tbh. Everything else on the card was forgettable lol & it ain't worth rewatching.

I'd say good 2 classics and Bret/Yoko was decent especially considering the previous WM.
I'll say 7/10.

I'd give it a B+. You had two all-time classics and another pretty good match. Considering how weak the roster was at the time, that's pretty good.

I'm with the 2 gents above...
Bret/Yoko was a good main event
Ladder match is classic
Best opener in Mania history IMO with Owen/Bret
Wish I can say Mach's final televised WWF match was good but sadly it wasnt. At least he won

B a solid mania and one i enjoyed quite a bit. had that big mania feel still which i loved. the highlights for me were both special guest referee's: piper & perfect. i jumped out of my seat both times when they came out. both are in my top 5 fav wrestlers of all time so both coming back that night was AWESOME for me. and pefect turning on lex and being a heel again i was lookin so forward to. (but that didnt plan out later tho). also had some great matches like bret/owen, shawn/razor, lex/yoko, & bret/yoko. was hopin for more from savage/crsuh, but it was what it was. doink/bigelow was fun stuff.

Sits just outside the top 10 on my Mania list overall, sixth considering only the Manias pre-split of the roster. Nothing much more I can add. Bret-Owen and Ladder Match are remembered for a reason. Bret getting the belt back. Dink getting inadvertently crushed by Luna.
But dang that hotheaded Luger cost himself again. Roll Fuj and Corny out the ring yourself and don't manhandle the referee. Commentary is kinda bleh.

I really enjoyed this WrestleMania, especially after what we got the year before.
Madison Square Garden looked great as always. Bret Vs Owen, HBK Vs Razor, Bret Vs Yoko and I actually really enjoyed Savage Vs Crush, that was a fun little feud that they had going on and even though the ending didn't go to plan, I enjoyed it.
It's also awesome that Bret gets his WWF Champion moment at a WrestleMania.
Edit* Forgot to mention the special guest referees, that was awesome. Mt grandfather is Scottish and he got the biggest kick when Roddy Piper came out.

Apart from Bret/Owen and Shawn/Razor, it's a rather weak WrestleMania in my book.

I really liked it at the time and I'm certain it's a cut above the Manias either side of it, but haven't watched it back for a loooong time since so I can't really comment in much detail.
I do think that having Yokozuna going into the show as champion and being destined for two matches - they weren't going to put the belt on one babyface mid-show and then have him lose to another an hour later - meant that the quality overall was always going to suffer somewhat. It's a shame they couldn't find a better heel champion for this time and it's one reason that I've often thought they should have stuck with the Narcissist heel gimmick for Luger. The angle of two Rumble winners was a very good idea and could have ensured two really good matches with the right personnel involved, but Yoko wasn't the athlete who could deliver that.
Savage was also misguided in campaigning to work with Crush, thinking he could get Crush over and help his own cause. Their match really was a damp squib, especially that finish with the rope.
Tag-team wise, they really misused the Steiners who should have been the main contenders for (and winning) the title here rather than MOM.

I thought that was his consolation prize after Vince wouldn't give him a feud with Shawn. Either way, the match was okay, but nothing great. And you're right, the tag team division was in the toilet at this time and wouldn't come out of it until 1998. The fact that the Steiner's were still with the company but not even on the card is ridiculous. They should have been long running champions at this point. After WrestleMania, a feud between them and HIB & Diesel over the tag titles would have been fun.

After WrestleMania, a feud between them and HIB & Diesel over the tag titles would have been fun. To be honest that comes from Pritchard, so it might just be the company line, but he said that Savage and Crush got on well and Randy wanted to work a feud with him. I know that Lanny Poffo was seething until almost his dying day that the WWF (thanks to Paterson wanting to put Randy out to pasture) hadn't let Randy have his wish of feuding with Shawn though, but I think that may have already been something that Randy had been putting forward earlier before he became established in the commentary role (1993 I guess) than by the time of Mania X. I think the Razor/Shawn program was inevitable at that time and the right call, and we got a real classic out of it here, so no complaints.

If Wrestlemania X would have been booked differently I think it would have been a great PPV still to this day.
Bret vs. Owen Steiners vs. Quebecers for the Tag Titles Savage vs. Crush HBK vs. Ramon for the IC Title in the ladder match Yoko vs. Luger as the main event for the WWF TItle Tatanka vs. Borga Bigelow vs. Doink Earthquake vs. Bomb Blayze vs. Kai
But because of injuries or not being around or just poor booking by WWF at the time, we ended up getting the Wrestlemania X we got.
I don't mind watching it though, it's nostalgic, it's fun, it's perfect for that New Generation era. The first Mania without Hogan in it too makes it kind of special.

I just can't see Vince having his All-American Hero 2.0 Luger finally get to celebrate having the title, have the crowd join in with it all, and then barely an hour later he's going into the ring with another fans favourite and the big 10th anniversary Mania is going to end with the All-American Hero 2.0 Luger immediately losing in a screwy way. It was inevitable that whoever got the closing match was going to get to be the new champion finally defeating the evil foreigner.
It's one reason i have always wished that they had stuck longer with the Narcissist gimmick and eventually had Luger going into Mania X as champion to face two babyface co-winners of the Rumble. Yokozuna wasn't bad, but the title stayed on him far too long for someone so limited (due to his ever-ballooning size) and who didn't have the charisma/mic skills to counteract that, though at least they had put Cornette by his side by Mania to try and help remedy that.
Booking someone who ran out of gas so easily to have to perform twice on the show basically guaranteed you would get two at best "okay" matches, which they were, not stinkers at all, but just okay (the WM9 match was better - before Hogan's entrance - than the final match here)... but that seems a strange booking decision for your big 10th anniversary showcase when you're already trying to turn around a company seeing declining interest. Wrestlemania X wasn't supposed to be just the next PPV after all, it was supposed to be the big anniversary of the company's flagship. "Ten Years In the Making", in the Garden, and with plenty of nods to the show's historical status.
Imagine Savage vs the Narcissist as the first match, where you've endless possibilities for the screwy finish against Savage, then later Bret finally avenges his earlier loss to the Narcissist (you could re-involve Savage in the finish if you want).
They could even brought Piper back a few months earlier and had him as the shock co-winner of the Rumble with Bret and play out the same scenario from there. It would have had the element of Piper having been in the main event back at the very first Mania, now he's getting his next Mania 10 years later. Frame it all in its historical context as well as letting Piper generate the hype about him always wanting to fulfil his destiny and finally get the world title. When he gets screwed out it in the first match, that's going to generate so much more heat than the weird DQ finish we got which was essentially a (then) face referee objecting to being pushed by another face.
They could even have got all-in on the historical train and beaten WCW to the punch by a few months by booking Mr T as the guest referee for this match so you build up that link of Piper's status as one of the guys who helped start the whole Wrestlemania phenomenon with his main event appearance with his grudge against Mr T. Then you've got the added angle of Piper being suspicious right from the start that he's going to get double crossed here. I know they didn't even like each other personally, so you've automatically got some needle in the match.
You get three guys going away from the event in much better standing than what went down. Yoko lost the title by being a klutz and falling off the ropes for no reason and Luger looked like a loser for now having failed to beat a not particularly heinous champion in two big PPVs attempts. Both of them were dead as big match performers in the company from there on and barely got even a match between either of them at the next two big PPVs.
