I thought that this would be fun to discuss.
Pick your favorites from the 80s and 90s that you feel when you watch it their matches, promos, look or whatever still holds up to this day.
I will start with Bret Hart
I will always say that Shawn Michaels is my all time favorite, but Bret Hart's stuff I feel has aged better. He was able to have a good match with anyone, no matter what their size was and while HBK may have been more flashy. Bret was always able to get other people over as well as getting himself over better than HBK did.
Bret's punches and kicks are second to none for me, it makes me cringe when I see some of the kicks, punches and stomps that modern wrestlers do. Bret/s stuff always looked like it connected at full force, yet from what other wrestlers have said, he was one of the safest guys to be in the ring with. You can watch a compilation of Bret Hart matches and just enjoy the action from bell to bell.
Bret was also a far better promo than people give him credit for. His heel stuff in 97 is fantastic and I think that had he been able to stick around into the Attitude Era for a few years, he would have been an even better heel! However, even when he was a face, his promos may not have blown people away, but you always believed that Bret believed what he was saying. He came across as a real guy and not a character.
So there you go, I feel that Bret Hart's work has aged the best out of all the guys from the 80s and 90s, but I would love to hear your thoughts on who you would pick or if you would pick Bret like I did.

Bret's a good pick. I still rate his 1990-1997 as the best in-ring work I've ever seen. He just had great match after great match during those years. I would probably say his worst year in that run was 1995, but that was more the people/angles he was working with, not really anything he did. And even with that, he still put on great matches with the likes of Diesel, Davey Boy, and Hakushi.

I'll go with my guy, Randy Savage. I've watched some of his matches within the last year and they still hold up. Anytime he is in front of the camera, he is always on. He, like Bret, could have a good/great match with anyone. I also look at how fast he was in the ring, he used to hit those ropes and turnbuckles with so much speed. Today's wrestlers don't do that, they don't even go into turnbuckles fast or hard anymore. And their punches, stomps, kicks, etc. look weak as hell. Nothing from Savage looked weak back then.

I agree with Randy Savage, another guy who always brought it and could have a good match with pretty much anyone. I loved that weird clothesline that he would do almost like a flying clothesline, but he would land on his butt instead of flying forward through the air.

I think any technical wrestler from the 80s and 90s is gonna age well.
Bret, Savage, Steamboat, Santana, Martel, Perfect, HBK, Jannetty, 123 Kid, Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero, etc.
All those guys had incredible matches back in the day and could easily mesh with any of the talent you see on TV today in matches.

Does anyone wear neon cowboy hats anymore? Seriously though besides Piper and Savage like hbkbigdaddycool said any good technical wrestler from the past could.

It's pretty much a law in Texas that you have to wear a cowboy hat...

Bret will always be the gold standard, but Savage, Steamboat, and Perfect hold up flawlessly.
Also, I think we still have yet to find anyone who can top Jake Roberts and Dusty Rhodes on the mic.
