It's always fun to fantasy book lines. If you were head of the Mattel Team in 2009. Would you have made any changes to the Elite 1 lineup, with different superstars or even the same superstars but with different ring gear?
Jeff Hardy was an obvious glaring hole in Series 1, but so to were JBL in the early series and ECW Champion Matt Hardy.
I feel that John Cena should have been in the first series as the anchor.

Same lineup different attires. All 6 figures have black as the main color. Would've chose different attires for Edge, MVP, and Punk to make it more vibrant so it could stand out

You still had 4 of the top stars at the time in the lineup but I wouldve had CM Punk in his Great American Bash 2008 attire which still hasnt been done by Mattel and Rey Mysterio in his WM25 Joker attire but that might be too short a window to make it for the Jan 2010 release date.   |

Yeah I would have not canceled the Jeff Hardy and had double joint arms from the beginning, other than that it’s a fine lineup

IIRC, didn't wave 1 through 3ish all come out around the same time? So, Cena not being included in Wave 1 wasn't really a reflection on who the line prioritized.
I wasn't into wrestling figures much in 2010, but I remember the Mattel contract being a big deal. There was like, an entire aisle of Walmart cleared out to house Elites, Basics and Basic two-packs. And all the crappy late-era Jakks repaints that clogged shelves for months prior were all of the sudden gone!

I think JBL was retired by the time Elite Series 1 came out (WM 25 was Spring of 2008), hence why he didn’t get any figures from Mattel until the Series 23(?) Elite. The lack of Matt, Christian, or Swagger with an ECW title was a missed opportunity for sure though, thankfully we did eventually get that RSC exclusive Matt with the new WWECW silver eagle title years later. Then again I don’t think we even got any of the championship titles in the Elite line until series 7 (Sheamus had the spinner title, Drew with the IC title) and it was an absolutely massive deal when they finally came out |

I think a lineup of Cena (blue/black gear as we saw in series 3), Shawn Michaels (ideally red/black/silver as seen in Basic series 4 or gold/brown as we saw in the Two-Packs series 1 w/ Jericho), Undertaker (the one they released in series 1 was fine as is), Rey Mysterio (any of his attires from that time period that wasn’t predominantly black so that the figure would pop out more on store shelves), Edge (red tights), and either CM Punk or Chris Jericho in the final slot (any of their attires would do really as they all have some splash of color to a degree to keep things interesting.) With that I think you’d have a nice variety of fan favorites that would sell and different attire types (ie not everyone is wearing just black tights or trunks)

I'd possibly put some bigger names in - swap MVP for Cena kind of thing.
This also made me remember the pre-2010 Mattel teaser poster. I think it was a blurred out Triple H on an entrance ramp?

I would have done: Undertaker Shawn Michaels Triple H Batista John Cena Chris Jericho Basically this. I would've replaced punk, MVP, edge, Rey with bigger stars at the time for the big bang. |

I don’t think I was watching much at the time, if at all, and even if I was I cannot possibly remember who was heavily featured in 2008-09 and what attires they were wearing to rebook the line.
