I waited until the Memorial Day sale to pull the trigger, but as soon as the sale went live all of the Ultimate Edition Yokozunas in my area went missing. They weren't on the shelves and not available online. So I find the guy stocking the figures and ask him if they are getting more in, as these were just released on the 28th of April, and he says no. I see that online has some available, so I purchasee one at regular price, and now four days later it's listed as on back-order. Is Mattel getting these off shelves because of the criticism of his skinny arms, or is this one of those figures that they will make scarce, so as to drive demand for another version in the future? Seems odd to me.

I am a highly lucky hunter, found pretty much anything in-person over the last 4 years that you can think of. Chases, short-packed, tough subline series, you name it, I have found it...
Until Yoko, who I have not found, not even the regular version and I have been to a Target no less than 20 times since the street date.

I tried to order it online for store pickup when they went on sale for 19.99.... app said they had it in stock....
Couple hours later I got the notification that it was out of stock and my order would not be fulfilled. So obviously, I didn't bother going to pick it up.
I'm an old guy but I'm trying to adapt to all this "new technology" when it comes to figure-hunting...... BUT is this really better?
Plus, if they had hoped to get me into their store to pick up their exclusive product that I reserved, they failed by not having it available.
I don't want it THAT badly, so I'm not crying about this one..... but for $20 I would have gotten it.
To answer your question - I suspect the $20 sale wiped out most of their supply.

Either they made way less Yoko than Warrior or no one bought that Warrior
I've got both Yoks. Seem others in the wild but they don't last long and they're not nearly as easy to get as the elites. Especially Ali

I've seen the regular once and no chases. Thankfully I snagged at least the one.

Most of my area stores restocked them twice. They’re gone now, but a big part of the problem was the people who purchased them before the street date when stores accidentally put them out early. I know of two people who did that with all the chases they found. They did the who scan something else at five different Targets. Which is a total dick move because not only are they doing something dishonest they are also screwing up those stores inventory. Because the system still thinks they have some Yoko’s in stock because they didn’t scan Yoko’s barcode at the registers so that DPCI still shows some in stock.
Plus I am pretty sure they (Target) do cover app orders with the stores inventory. They just did that for me with the Target Exclusive ML Sam Wilson Captain America figure. I did a store pick up order but received a email saying it wasn’t in stock at that store and would ship me one with free shipping from another store. It’s at my p/o now and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

Plus I am pretty sure they (Target) do cover app orders with the stores inventory. They most definitely do. The same thing happened with my legends AJ. Yeah, they cover new orders with store inventory but not preorders. Preorder ship from their distribution centers. I noticed at my Target, starting with Legends 21 that we have locals that order them as soon as they go up on release day, and the first batch ever make it to the shelves. It will take another week or so before they get replenished, then they will finally get some on the shelves. But starting with Legends 21, they have not been anywhere near as plentiful on the shelves. The same thing happened at the end of April with the release of Legends 22. They were not on the shelf until a few weeks into May, and they got a sidekick display, and that is not in the wrestling figure aisle, it is an aisle away. In fact the two recent figures I have yet to see on shelves? Ultimate Yokozuna and Legends 22 Muhammed Ali.

When it first came out I saw a bunch and one chase. I didn’t buy any but since that initial rush it’s been gone. I think many stores shoved em out early and maybe never restocked?

8 Targets in my town. 4 got one case of Yoko. All 4 sold out the case in one day. Zero restocks.

This was easy to get if you preordered or ordered it online when it was first available.
I didn't see any on shelves personally but was able to do store pickup when they first initially hit. I suspect the workers didn't know the release date to stock the shelves and was just left in the stockroom.
The $19.99 sale probably wiped it out at stores but then it was available online again after the sale ended.
This release was a way better success than Warrior, probably due to the incorrect darker skin tone or everybody else is sick of Warrior or something.

I haven't seen any in store, but wasn't looking all that hard since I ordered one online when they first went in stock. It's possible they made fewer, since Yoko is a much lower tier name than Macho, Bret, Warrior. But they tooled up a unique body mold - I'd be shocked if we don't get a repaint somewhere down the road.

I checked the stores around me on the website religiously daily and never saw any in stock. I had no problem getting both the regular and chase on Targets site
