Bret spent the majority of ‘95 in the midcard feuding with an over the hill Backlund, a dentist, and a pirate who stole his jacket. Even before he informed Vince he was taking time off he was being booked as an afterthought. Self fulfilling prophecy. Book the guy like crap until he questions his commitment to the company, so you can excuse your crap booking of the guy by saying he isn't committed to the company. Seriously. Bret went from the #1 face of the company to arguably…4 or 5 in 1995. Diesel was 1 and HBK was 2. I’d say Taker atleast had the better stories with the Million Dollar Corporation and Kama which would put him at 3. And Razor hovered around the IC Title scene, so that would make him 4 IMO. That leaves Bret in the #5 babyface spot. I can’t blame the guy for taking half of 1996 off when Vince hardly valued him in 1995. People always talk about Luger’s huge dropoff in the babyface peking order following WM X, but Bret hard just as big of a dropoff following the Royal Rumble 1995.

The booking at least after Summerslam 94 and certainly 1995 was absolutely atrocious and it's no coincidence whatsoever that it was at that very moment that WCW thought we can offer a better product and went all-in.
