I gave it a B ranking. Bill Mikeina and the Mattel team have improved as designers. It's evident in the Shawn Michaels SDCC exclusive, how they improved Triple Hs Ultimate Edition body mold to look more like him and Lex Lugers UE mold.
CM Punk Ultimate Edition from Money in the Bank 2011 was at the top of my list of what I wanted to see revealed and was happy to see it get made. Ultimate Warrior/Papa Shango Ultimate Editions looked incredible,a definite highlight and hopefully will be able to purchase it. Glad to see Bianca Belair getting another Elite, wanted Big Bossman heel Ultimate Edition figure and Shawn Michaels from Survivor Series 2006. Was also glad to see them re releasing Eddie Guerrero Hall of Champions. Finn Balor Ultimate, Jade Cargill prototypes, Rhea Ripley Ultimate Edition were other highlights for me.
Negatives were that Hulk Hogan Royal Rumble finished product, just the wasted Hogan spots in general. There are still Hogan figures I want to see released but not the ones that were shown at SDCC. A re-release of WMX8 Hogan this soon?? Seems unnecessary to me. Wrestlemania XXX Hogan? That's what they give us dedicated collectors? A bit of a slap in the face. Never seen it on anyone's lists. We want White shirt American Made Hogan, Python Power bandana Hogan. Wrestlemania III Ultimate Edition Hogan. If they lose him from the line this is a wasted series of Hogan figures that they put out at this SDCC.
Lack of new legends in the line, no US Express, no Haku brought it down almost to a C ranking I think. US Express seemed like a given at this SDCC and to have nothing shown of them gives me an empty feeling, to where if I saw them revealed i would have felt like "this SDCC feels complete now" Instead of almost waiting around for them to be shown at the last minute but not expecting it. Still no Savage resigned and doesn't look like they will get him resigned. Imagine how beautiful a tanned orange trunks, yellow boots Elite Macho Man Mint on Card would have looked next to that Greatest Hits Mint on Card Hogan. Wasted opportunity.
No new Legends that would give a real great reaction - Demolition, Legion of Doom, Powers of Pain Barbarian. Austin with the snake arm shirt being a Basic figure is frustrating.
For collectors of around the Wrestlemania 1 event - well a few years ago they gave us Hogan/Mr T/Roddy Piper Ultimate Edition. Orndorff, Wendi Richter, red tights JYD, Freddie Blassie. Last year Captain Lou Albano and SDCC Muhammad Ali. We were building that roster naturally and well paced. With the Coliseum Collection it seemed like it was made to really build on that roster - that they would give us Iron Sheik, Big John Studd, Andre The Giant, Hillbilly Jim LJN originals, and this SDCC didn't give us anything. Collectors of that era were left empty and dissapointed.
No new Elite Jake the Snake Roberts or Brutus The Barber Beefcake looks.People they have under contract that they can easily do repaints of that collectors would be happy to purchase. They waited our this Green Ultimate Warrior so much to the point that I have moved on from it and don't even want it anymore.
Is the Legends line becoming a running joke? After this years reveals it appears so. Justin Hawk Bradshaw, add him to the obscure, unwanted deep cuts that Mattel have added to their line.
Also, on the heels of SDCC - it's a sobering thought to think that the next true reveal is at Wrestlemania as Ringside Fest offered very little last year and was a disapointment. They are pre taped also, so the leaked lineups definitely takes the excitement off of that. It mostly displayed figures that were revealed at SDCC that were shown in their finished form. Don't have my hopes built up too high for that based on last year's performance. In general it felt like this SDCC wasn't a loaded lineup of reveals.

I'm actually relieved to see all the "C" ratings here.... seemed like the SDCC thread had a lot of "BEST SDCC EVERRRR" comments and I was wondering what I wasn't seeing that they saw..... Some really nice showings. * UE Lex Luger looks phenomenal. And this will be a Walmart exclusive? UGH. Good luck, everyone. * Legends Ravishing Rick Rude + Chase..... both are going to be must-have for me, and I haven't been going after chases lately. This one, I will. * UE Hulk Still Rules. * Royal Rumble Hogan - I disagree with theman ... I like the use of the fan banner. It was an epic, Defining Moment of Hulkamania. * The Great Muta - I will likely be trying to get all of these. * New Superstars - Bret Hart, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Cactus Jack, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Ricky Steamboat.... assuming these are distributed AT ALL (I'm not convinced that they will be) I'd like to add at least a few of them to my Superstars collection.... * Coliseum Collection - Boss Man & Bam Bam look amazing..... * Finally, Hollywood Blondes Pillman! What line is this going into, regular Elite or Legends? Like everyone else, I am disappointed by the lack of "new" and returning Legends. Glad for those who want it, but Golga & "Make a Difference" Fatu aren't gonna cut it for me. I'm absolutely dumbfounded by what they're doing with the Monday Night Wars line. It started out with hot figures that we weren't able to find..... and it seems to be slowly shifting over to Wrestlecrap. I'm actually relieved because I don't want any of these figures so I won't have hunt for them. Is that a good thing? Maybe. I was hoping for better. Also disappointed by no updates on Macho Man & Ric Flair (I never expected Sting). These guys are cornerstones in my collection & I've been missing them. Overall a lot of great stuff shown and the designs on the new stuff look absolutely amazing. I just was hoping for a little bit more.

Personally give the event an A-. As a collector of anything all the way up to 2011. And WCW 88-94 pre Hogan. Overall a lot of things got ticked off the list: Rick Rude wcw 91-94 Brian Pillman 93 Justin Hawk Bradshaw 96 Mad Fatu 95 Golga 98 Late 95 bulldog Smoking gunns billy Carlito 04/05 Kurt Angle 06 Dudleyz 99 Steiners 93/94 Bigalow 87/88 So with those alone it helps pad out the collection. Of course I wish we could have seen Us express, Haku and maybe a 2003/04 super hero rosey but I’m sure that’s all down the line. I wasn’t so keen on the royal rumble and Wrestlemania ppv line ups this year personally myself. I’d have loved an 08 Rhodes, 05 hurricane or even Gregory helms. 91 Hogan and 07 Khali. The wm set for me just didn’t hit the spot. But overall great showing

Some of what I saw I liked, but I didn’t really see much of anything yet because of the running around we had to do over the last few days. Between the rerelease and new figures I did see way too many CM Punk figures. I am planning on checking out the pics today.

ill slap a SOLID C grade on this. average for me.
im being totally honest RIGHT NOW, at this moment im a little trepidatious concerning the products im excited for. Monday Night Wars line is huge for me. that was MY ERA of wrestling growing up. the figures are attractive to me, there hasnt been a figure/look or character that has completely tipped the scales as being "MUST HAVE GOTTA GET IT" but at the same time too it has been a freaking struggle to get these figures into my collection. yes i have pre-orders locked in TODAY, but in three weeks or months later wal mart gonna wal mart and they probably gonna get cancelled.
CM Punk stuff was badass to see! im a big Punk fan so the UE and new elites were ace for me.
being a serious collector of the line i was pretty let down by the 're-releases' that were brought in. vault figures didnt make too much sense to me, greatest hits figures didnt make too much sense to me, and the MNW Greatest hits set is another set that im buying too many figures that i already have. i actually really want to shame mattel for putting GH figures in a BAF wave its just really bad business. i dont care if you feel like an attitude era bossman would go great in the MNW line it is a re-release figure and thus needs to be in GH line, not something required to build an new figure. the Hogan figure in the royal rumble line is pointless and a bad move aswell. Hogan figures may represent a specific moment for those hulk fans, but to everyone else they are all the exact same figure in yellow trunks and red boots. the Royal Rumble Diesel figure needs a new headsculpt i dont know why mattel is getting lazy and completely ignoring that-Nash was damn near in his 60s for that appearance and his goatee was trimmed up completely differently.
beyond that FOR ME, there wasnt a whole lot that made me want to jump out of my seat. seeing Muta in the line was pretty amazeballs but most of my focus was lasered on the MNW line and there wasnt too much new light shed upon that that we havent already known about.
Steiners are rad, but not my era for them. i was late 90's i wanted to see a Big Poppa Pump figure.

I gave it a B. Only reason it wasn’t an A, was because there was no new first time in the line characters. I know we’re getting Golga and Justin Hawk Bradshaw(great fig btw) but that’s not the same.

B- at best.
The legends were great, but I'm not a legends-focused collector.
Getting some solid Wrestlecrap figures on the way thrills the hell out of me though. Definitely going to be searching for those, but the Golga being stuffed behind the BAF spot of a set nobody can find as is makes me livid...
... almost as livid as them putting Ultimate Rhea behind a ring. That ring is only going to sell for her, and people are going to buy it, put the Rhea figure on secondary for 10 dollars off the price of the ring, and then sell the ring separately as well for people who might actually want it. Absolutely brutal, cruel move by Mattel, but that's business for you.
Also, there were next to no women shown. Like, NONE. For a company that loves to stick FTIL women in every basic wave, you'd think we'd see more than one of them.
They legit put a basic Natalya in an elite rerelease wave. Thanks for that Mattel.
No Sami and Kevin figures. Not one. RIP me.
Really, there was some *cool* stuff shown, but outside of them actually blessing us with another Naomi, there wasn't a whole lot I actually got excited for, except Saudi gear Rhea which, seriously, I'm so very worried that they're gonna pull a bait and switch and give us mixed attires on that. I know it's not a thing we know for certain, but at this point, there's not a lot on the "wtf" scale from Mattel that shocks me anymore. If we get NoC Liv to go with Rhea, I'll be thrilled. Beyond thrilled. It'll be a joyous day indeed. But I'm not holding my breath.
Didn't help that, out of the stuff I wanted to preorder this week, I could only get the Fan Takeover Seth because I ran out of money at the middle of this month.

C. No new legends. I do like the warrior shango 2 pack. No new Machos!!! Really need to get him signed again. Still waiting on my Killer Bees and Moondogs teams. Lol. The Superstars line additions look great though I wish the Harts were in pink. No new Machos!

I found it to be lackluster. That's okay. It just wasn't geared as much towards me as I would have preferred, and that's okay. They have to appease to ALL collectors. I'm a Legends/Throwback/Flashback only guy (Attires before The Mattel acquisition of the license basically). Some years I feast at ComicCon reveals, some Years I Famine...and that's just life as a niche collector. I still don't know WHY we can't get a nice elite or Ultimate of 1996 FACE champion Shawn Michaels in a regularly worn (not one off or two off) attire with the Winged Eagle (Hell, I'm a loose collector with plenty of Spare Winged Eagles. I'd settle for them NOT including the Belt).

B-
If an HBK is shown, it's an automatic B.
That being said, lots of stuff I like.
Ultimate DX HBK Ultimate Hulk still Rules Ultimate final boss Rock Ultimate Vader New Sid elite Legends Kurt Angle and Godfather Finally and updated R-truth Elite 19 HBK re release with FINALLY knee pads. 3rd time's a charm I suppose. Ultimate Punk
Things I didn't like, singles wcw booker t being locked behind the Walmart wall.
On other hand jazzwares certainly surprised me with those stings. I want that 3 pack and the yellow surfer sting. Don't care for the blade runner version as it won't have a tag partner unless Mattel and jazzwares made a behind the scenes loophole partnership and Mattel will make a warrior blade runner which there's no indication.
Overall this SDCC I was more excited for Jadas street fighter reveals. They are absolutely KILLING it.
I was left satisfied this SDCC.

Overall B for me
Cons: No Macho, Sting, Demo, LOD I could go on, but zero new meaningful legends is a problem Limited UE I’m really excited about - I don’t really do Elites much anymore, probably a good thing cause Hot Toys knocked it out of the park!!! Reissues - not a fan of the sheer volume, just to many now IMO. No Hitman UEs
Pros: Steiner’s - I gotta count them - amazing figures…(wish they were Maina 9) Warrior / Shango - awesome set, probably would have made a better SDCC exclusive if we are being honest. SDCC HBK exclusive - whilst not a home run, I’m glad the WWE Mattel SDCC figure is an actual wrestler - where is my Hitman from WM12 lol??? Muta, Hogan and Dusty UEs… looking awesome CC - Bam Bam / BBM (CC is my fav line going)
Overall, considering no major announcement of returning / new talent, I think the Mattel crew have done a good job. Was hoping we’d get Hitman Punk in UE or Elite 16 in UE. I think given Mattel has 3 major showings a year, and reveals basically every month, we need to consider SDCC secondary reveal to Mania now, with RSC the smallest of the 3 shows annually. That helps temper expectations for next year.

There was nothing for me, everyone else made out and I am happy for that. Just im a early 80s guy. expected something more. Remakes: Volkoff (heel) new face scans Any Heenans, (remake in all Black) looks like he is still under contract. Hillbilly Jim. US EXPRESS they should have a legends deal, they were in HOF Haku Tito Santana IC title green with blue truck Ariba shirt Muraco Heel version Valentine (pink robe green IC belt) Beefcake (yellow Lightning bolt) 84/85 look Macho, debut robe with dragon and snakes on it. Elizabeth debut to Match Maybe waiting on Coliseum for this not sure. NEW signings I can't understand how these low budget, small toy companies are getting all the good talent We keep getting: HHH, Hogan, Bulldog, Shawn over and over again. Well WM is our last hope. for the 84,85,86's fans. was not impressed getting Bam Bam and Big Boss man again, when there are so many other options.

The Con is old news now. It's all about Jesse Ventura. How many Mattel figures they can get out and how quickly I can buy them.

Probably a C+ or B- for me. Some really fun stuff like Golga, Bron with his entrance piece, and Retro Liz and Sherri. 98 Booker was probably my favorite thing shown, and then Legends Carlito as far as future releases. But no new Legends names hurt this one. Jerry Lynn from Jazwares was my favorite wrestling figure reveal of the weekend, and Toni Storm, BCG Jay White, and Jay Lethal are must gets. The Sting reveals were great too. If you were to have told me ahead of time I'd be equally or more excited for Jazwares figures than Mattel after SDCC, I would have told you to take your meds. But I think that speaks more to being underwhelmed by Mattel and the rereleases and repeat characters than anything else.
