More rambling because I forgot to answer the Andre question: Love the Andre collection! Have you read Box Brown's comic biography? (Apologies if I missed it in the display.) I don't have a ton of collector rules, myself. My focus is on women's wrestling, especially joshi, which doesn't have a huge history of figures. It mostly means I have a lot of autographs, shirts, programs, and support towels (basically fabric banners with printed logos and images of wrestlers and factions). Figure-wise, while I tend to focus on WWE/AEW current women's roster, I have some favorite male wrestlers I collect - Finn, Nakamura, Pete Dunne, Macho. But I don't have any really specific rules, just preferences and guidelines to keep me from spending way too much.

In the Jakks days, I bought so much. New wrestler figures were always priority number one.
In the Mattel days, since prices are so high and distribution so poor, my only two rules are I actually have to be a fan of the wrestler, and I will never pay anything above retail. Needless to say, I'm buying, maybe, 5 figures a year.

I’ve got similar rules - my cut off is a little earlier, but I have a few exceptions, specifically one only of anyone current (UE) and also, figures from Manias I’ve attended (33, 39 & 40). To answer your question, for me it’s a very simple (yet perhaps a little disturbing) equation. If you’re a loose collector, go ahead and grab that Cena - it’s no different! But, if you’re a MOC collector (as I am), it officially breaks your rules (as it states on the box it has nothing to do with Mania) - so I’d pass and hope they do a Mania 40 one (your only hope is a multi-pack I assume, and probably elite as well). I also attended 33 in Florida as well as 40…I loved 33 as it was my first and to be honest, im not sure why I haven’t thought of getting figures from that previously, maybe I’ll look into that. I guess at the time I was over the moon to be at my first Mania at last but apart from seeing Taker live at a mania, I wasn’t really into the product a great deal. Where as Mania 40 completely captured me in the build up and the product is obviously a lot hotter now than it was back then…plus, The Rock. I am loose these days, I still have a few MOC but I had to stop as getting truly mint boxes to the U.K. from the US became impossible. The first UE Rock was the straw that broke my MOC back, it arrived from Amazon like it had been kicked all the way, I had to open it and then proceeded to open 200 others. Have to say, it’s the best decision I ever made, makes life obtaining figures easier and cheaper and I get a lot more joy seeing my figures on display rather than stacked or put away in totes. I absolutely wouldn’t get the Cena with Crown Jewel on the box if I was still MOC - I think as I’m loose and you rightly say, they likely won’t release another from Mania 40, I’m going to have to get it and hope I can shake it from my brain.

Anything from wwwf to mania 25 is fair game. Wcw collection is late 80’s until death. Ecw collection is any scraps I can get. Hasbro and official Mattel retro completist. I’ve also got displays for Simpsons super7, tmnt neca cartoon (stopping this where I am) and movie (collect every new character or look), rocky neca, Motu movie, storm street fighter and MK and tossing up a wcw gallob collection haha. Then I collect Jordan’s 1-13 (wear them all) and old school hip hop vinyl. Lastly I’ve got a small collection of sports memorabilia as well. I think this qualifies for as psycho. Nice, MOTU Movie is/was my favourite of all time, lots of nostalgia for me - waited so long to get movie figures that weren’t around when I was a kid. Was over the moon to get the Super 7s. I’m pleased Mattel is getting a few more out for us but I wish Super 7 had carried on, I think they did/would do them more justice. Your set up looks awesome man, love the magazines in frames too, something I’ve considered adding.

Getting the magazines to stay straight is the bane of my existence 😂

Im a gen Z collecter, so most of who I collect is from 2014-present, and mainly just the guys I’ve seen on TV. I have a smaller slew of prior eras, but its mostly due to the FWF. Older wrestlers are more toyetic, what can I say.
I have a hard rule about character dupes. I cannot have two of the same guy on display, and in some cases only one in the whole collection. My only exceptions so far are Rey Mysterio, I have a current day and a early 00s Rey.

If it’s the exact same look at he wore at WM I would have bought it unless maybe if I was a MIB collector then I might have passed on it. But that’s your decision as it’s your collection.
My rules are very simple. Rule #1 - If I look at a figure from anyone who wrestled up to March ‘90 and it brings back a memory of watching wrestling with my dad (or just a memory of my dad) I buy it. Anything past March ‘90 is if I like them of found them entertaining I’ll buy it. If I didn’t/don’t find them entertaining on TV then I really don’t need/want them on my shelves because there’s no connection to them.
Rule #2 - I never buy off the secondary market. If it wasn’t a figure I wanted enough to preorder and I don’t see it on the pegs then I feel I don’t need it. Because I didn’t want it enough to preorder. So it clearly wasn’t that important to me.

I just buy what I like, pass on what I don’t.
I do tend to stick to about 1985-1995 since that’s my era, but if it’s cool and outside of that time, I’m still all about it.
I guess you could say that I generally adhere to a rule that unless it’s autographed, vintage, or some sort of special packaging, all boxes go straight into the trash. Can’t enjoy ‘em behind plastic.

I only have one real rule, I guess, with wrestling figure collecting and that's I don't pose a figure with a title he's never held

I try and do as late in the career as possible within reason, and no duplicate characters. They are separated by era for the most part. Late 80s - early 90s, WCW / NWO, WWF attitude, Ruthless Aggression / PG, then I do have a shelf for current RAW and Smackdown guys that I like.
If a character was across multiple eras which many are, I try and put them on the shelf where they held or competed for that specific world title design. If multiple options for that I just put them in the era I have the most memories of them from.
The no duplicate character rule has helped a lot with space. It’s still a packed shelf, plus I have the same thing going on with AEW - so two large shelves, but my goal was to not allow it to take over the basement. Rather just be a cool corner of it to look at.

Seeing as I was at Summerslam 2024. I MIGHT break my "Only Flashback" rule for figures from that event.
