Actually started collecting a week prior to Jan 1. My TRU had them out the final week before Christmas that year…So I had the basic series 1 Triple H, Cena and one other (Evan Bourne?) under my tree that year. And all Elite styled figures(and basic woman) are displayed together. With a couple UE’s mixed in. And all other basics are displayed by themselves. And UE’s are by themselves. If possible can I see a picture of the originals displayed together. Im Curious to how it looks.

I was Day 1 Jakks BCA and Jakks CS
Unfortunately I had gotten out of wrestling by ‘09/‘10. Got into Mattel about Elite 8 I think. But back then you could still walk in and find strays from early sets. I remember buying Elites of Legacy, Miz, Morrison, Jericho, all the Legend's Series were pretty plentiful. Great times

Since day 1? No as I wasn't collecting at the time. My first in store purchase of a Mattel figure was elite series 3 HBK. Didn't start collecting until my wife got me the DM HBK and then the wheels fell off.
I was always frustrated with the jakks figures. Felt like they were going backwards with articulation until the deluxe line came about. Thought it was cool at first, but when every figure was the same size in height and all with roided arms and the fact that if you played with the deluxe figures more than 10 minutes they became as loose as your neighborhood sweet lady 😉
I'm am glad Mattel took over the line. Still glad to this day seeing how it took half a decade for the former jakks employee to get decent looking figures out in the jazzwares line.

Absolutely! As PJ said, I started buying figs a week or so before the Jan 1, 2010 date. I remember finding Elite 1 in Target and a contact I had at TRU let me open a new case of Basic 1, including a Triple H 1/1000. Haha those were the days.

I'd love to see 1/1500 belts in 2025 for the anniversary.

My local kmart had a shipper display on launch and i grabbed the ones i wanted most(basics and elites). It was a hard pill to swallow after all those years from jakks, and the early prototypes shown i was not a fan of the figures at all. I remember them saying the choices they went with for legends was because they thought no one would buy the same figures jakks had just made. Once i had them in hand i was hooked and i am still collecting them today

I went out hunting on release day for the Matt Hardy figures. I did take, like, a 6 year break (I was REALLY pissed I couldn't find nWo Giant Elite), but I have been buying sporadically since the release of No Way Jose, which was my first figure back after the hiatus. My Mattel shelving unit is a mess. I just put stuff on where I can find room.
Sidenote: I sure do miss the chase 1 of 1,000 belt figures. I managed to find, like, 10 in the wild.

Fall of 2010 I bought the Elimination Chamber basic Taker from Walmart. Within a few weeks I had a basic HHH and Orton. Didn't purchase anything again until figures from Elite 8. By Elite 18 I was fully into pre-ordering from RSC and playing catch up hitting TRU, Target and Walmart all around Houston.
Houston remains to be the GOAT of my hunting days. Clearance DMs and EGs. Legends readily available at TRU. Fun times

I remember Legends series 1 being relatively easy to find. Target, Walmart, Kmart and Toys R Us all had them.

Found my first Mattel WWE figures immediately after Xmas '09. Had to be between Dec 26-28. Anyway the Walmart I found them at had basic series 1, the 2 packs and Wrestlemania Heritage set. The Elites and the ring weren't stocked until Jan 1st around here. Switching from Jakks to another collection sucked, but I'm glad i jumped in day 1.

I remember reading about the jakks/wwe lawsuit (I think THQ was involved too) and them losing the license. And only became aware of Mattel putting out figures after seeing Legends 6 at K-Mart (which was the wave with the Von Erichs). And being impressed with the figures and packaging.

I've been collecting mattel since day 1, but I've thrown in the towel a couple times and had to start over, so my collection does not reflect it anymore.

I am still here. Series 1 Kofi was my first figure from Mattel after years of Jakks collecting. Stopped for a while due to life in general but am still around collecting it now. Still waiting for Mattel to make a no wrist tape, bald Viper Randy Orton...And bring on more Mixk Foley figures too!
