This was taken from the 2cw.com site. Overall, I thought it was an excellent wrestling show. I'll post the results from the next night's show soon.
Back 2 Back Night 1 Recap
Hello, and welcome to the Night 1 recap of the big back-to-back weekend for 2CW in Syracuse. It’s late, so tonight’s recap will be short I promise. If you can, don’t forget to check out www.2cwnews.com. Night 2’s recap will be posted there. Please peruse my little area on the web devoted to 2CW. Before I get started, I just wanted to pass along the fact that there are a lot of great 2CW fans, but for me, my section has some of the best fans to watch a wrestling show with. Without getting lame, it’s hanging with people like that at a show that makes me want to go to shows even more than I already do. All right on to the recap. It might be a little out of order, but not much.
Isys Ephex & J.D. Love VS. Brodie Lee & Colin Olsen: As I predicted, this match was one of the more entertaining matches on the show. As in Binghamton, Brodie and Colin worked the crowd over on the mike, and received a harsher reaction than their first time around. Their affiliation with Upstate Wrestling was a catalyst for hatred in the fans. Ephex and Love entered as if they were the Rockers or the Rock & Roll Express; right down to their tattered t-shirts. While the match was the usual comedy spectacle you would expect with the teams, there was a good amount of wrestling to sink you teeth into. Team 2CW picked up the big win with an innovated toss by Love into a neck breaker by Isys. Good opener.
"Hurricane" John Walters VS. "Promise" Antonio Thomas: In a rematch from Syracuse, these two had a good portion of the crowd split. Thomas, when he has an opponent that can keep up with him, or carry him depending on who you talk to, can put on a good showing. He did just that tonight. Unfortunately, he picked up his first defeat in 2CW tonight, at the hands of Walter. Hurricane trapped the former Heartthrob in the sharpshooter and made him tap. On just a side note, some of the people in the crowd seem to have a love affair with Ring of Honor. I only mention this here, because they also have a gigantic man crush on Thomas as well. I think they need to read my post on being a 2CW fan at www.2cwnews.com. No offense, but nobody wants ROH posers coming to 2CW shows. Nobody wants to hear about ROH, or Shimmer, or any other fed that you want to pimp out in your snazzy shirts at a 2CW show. Just a thought from a diehard 2CW guy.
AJAX820 VS. Zaquary Springate III: Another show, and for one lucky Team Binghamton member, an awesome man hug from the wrestling legend, Zaquary Springate III. It wasn’t Ajax’s night. Springate dominated most of the match. While Ajax tried his best to fight through the pain that Springate inflected on his leg, Ajax was out gunned tonight. The finishing sequence saw Springate hit Ajax with everything but the kitchen sink, but Ajax would not stay down. Finally, Springate was able to score the pin after about 6 or 7 near falls. Despite the pain he was in, Ajax got on the microphone and made a challenge to Springate for a match at Night 2. To get Zaquary to agree, Ajax promised to leave 2CW if he lost the match. However, there was a catch. If Ajax wins, Zaquary must have his hair cut. I’m not sure if that means shaved bald, or just cutting off his trademarked ponytail that he sports ever so handsomely. After Ajax and Springate left the ringside area, Announcer Bob Foley made light of the idea of Springate having some of his locked cut from his head. To the shock of Bob and the fans, Springate returned to the ringside area and assaulted Foley. He pounded him into the mat and then proceeded to shave and sheer some of the few remaining hairs on Bob’s already balding head. Foley would have to be helped back into the dressing room area and 2CW official Matt Patterson took over announcing duties.
Delirious VS. Loca Vida: Delirious made his 2CW debut a successful one. They started off the match with dueling interviews that saw the crowd puzzled by the fact they couldn’t understand a word from either competitor. They shook hands and had an excellent bout. While Delirious is a Ring of Honor alum, Loca Vida did 2CW proud by keeping up with the talented Delirious. I was happy to see most of the crowd was very much into Loca and against Delirious as I’m very much into cheering for our homegrown guys. While Loca had a good showing, Delirious’ Shadow’s Over Hell top rope splash was too much for Loca to stand. While he was barely able to get the shoulders up on the first pin attempt, Delirious’ second attempt proved successful. While I was not a fan of Delirious because he was an outsider, I really would like to see him come back. He was a lot of fun to watch.
2 Cold Scorpio VS. Slyck Wagner Brown: While not the Main Event of the show, this may have been the most anticipated match of the night. To the people that know me, Jungle Boogie will always be one of my most favorite songs to listen to. The reason why, is because of how much I enjoyed 2 Cold Scorpio’s entrance in ECW years ago. I thought it was perfect then and to be honest, it is still perfect. When 2 Cold comes back, and we all know he has to, he should always come out to Jungle Boogie. I know its his choice and his Noah theme is cool to, but Jungle Boogie is special. Oh and there was a match to. What a match it was. If you saw the first two matches, then you already knew what to expect. This was off the charts good. The best match of the night, and one of the best matches of the year. For those of you wondering, the score is now Slyck 1, 2 Cold 2. Slyck pulled out the victory with his modified power bomb. This was a wrestling clinic that saw the student finally get one over the teacher. Both showed respect to each other after the match and hinted to having a best of 5 or 7 or 10. Any way you see it, these two in the ring again, mean the fans are the real winners.
Intermission saw the announcement that there will be a show in Syracuse on December 29 with tickets going on sale this Sunday. Don’t forget Binghamton on November 9th and Rochester on November 10th. Buy your tickets now.
Nikki Roxx VS. Lexxus: The ladies opened up show after Intermission and they put on a very good match. It seemed that Roxx was definitely the ring general in the match. She seemed to dominate the match somewhat, even though Lexxus put on a good showing as well. Roxx over powered Lexxus and won the bout. Hopefully she will do well in the TNA woman’s title hunt.
2CW Champion, Dizzie VS. Challenger, "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards: What was billed as the Main Event, actually was the semi main event. These two had a very good match. It was hard hitting, and it seemed at times that Eddie might pull off the victory. There was a scary moment in the match as Eddie attempted a dive through the ropes and over the guardrail. He came up a little short and landed midsection first on the steel rail. He gutted it through, no pun intended, and still put on a great performance. Dizzie, who is really coming into his own as champion, pulled out the victory with a little help from Isys Ephex. Taking a page out of Wrestlemania 5 IC title match, Isys tripped up Eddie, as he was suplexing Dizzie into the ring. Dizzie landed on the challenger and scored the cheap victory. Edwards would challenge Isys to a No DQ, No Count Out match at Night 2. Isys ambiguously stated that at Night 2, he would be in the building.
All Money Is Legal VS. Jason Ax & Brother Runt: This match started as a normal tag, but as usual, broke into a giant brawl. I don’t believe there was a winner as Gordy Wallace entered the building with a chair in hand and threatened to bash Runt with it; however, much like Runt did to Gordy a couple of months back, Gordy turned on AMIL. He laid them out with chair shots. Runt would end up taking out one of his opponents by jumping off the top of a ladder with a double stomp through a table. Just as they were about to finish off AMIL, The Killer Steves’ music hit. Out came Studly Steve to a large pop from the crowd. As Runt and Gordy held K-Pusha for the final blow from Steve, it was all a big swerve as the Studly One laid out Runt, Ax, and Gordy with chair shots. The crowd erupted as Steve cleared the ring with chair shots all around. The last surprise of the evening came when Steve made a challenge for a six-man tag match between himself, and AMIL vs Runt, Ax, and Wallace. Gordy accepted the challenge and we were off for the doors to cool off from the blistering heat of the building.
All in all, Night 1 was a lot of fun. You had good action, some swerves, one incredible off the charts match, and a great set up to Night 2. If the fan fest and the action of Night 2 is as good as tonight, then we are in for some awesome fun. Get your tickets now if you haven’t yet and as always, stop and say hi at the shows. Check out www.2cwnews.com when you can, and have a great night.
