So it's not in Bret Hart territory but I think Andre's likeness has yet to be captured by Mattel. I think Andres look is so unique it's hard to really capture it figure form. Young Andre, older Andre...some of the more recent figures with true fx have done better but I've still not seen any particular figure that is definitive Andre. The body proportions are always a bit off. The teeth, the hair, something is always a bit off. I'm still hoping for a really scary Andre post wm 4 with the wide eyes and maniacal look and so many teeth showing. Ultimate giant era. Thoughts?

The best scans are
The afro Amazon Exclusive elite
and the Heenan family 4-pack but it is bit smaller.
IMO he just needs the sideburns to make him look better, disappointing also that we do not have the big hands as swappable

I’ve always been pleased with how Mattel captured his likeness. The Amazon/TRU kinda was a bit cartoony but all of his Golden Age looks I feel range from good to great.

They did drop that Andre Ultimate edition a few years ago, the face is a little ehhh but not a bad figure. I wouldn't mind seeing an Andre the Giant with warrior paint! Also the Superstars figure hits both earlier Andre and later Andre a little cartoonish but all the superstars are.

Not sure if its the best Andre likeness Mattel ever made but I really like the likeness on the basic wrestlemania figure. All the more notable too because Super 7 released an Andre in the same WM2 attire around the same time that's pretty bad. They get some points though for getting certain aspects of his physique right....but still no way worth $55 or even $35.

I thought the first Andre figure (I think MattyCollector Legends?) was a great facial likeness.

I think his likeness has been well represented and improved over time
The biggest thing the can improve on are his sideburns - when he grew mutton chops, his hair was still thin, not the thick ones they have out on some of his figures, but that’s just nitpicking

The Amazon/TRU figure was dead on, but like many older figures, it suffers from the lack of TrueFX making it look too cartoony. I’d also like to see that Heenan Family 4-pack sculpt with a much better paint job. His Ultimate had I think the most heads in box for one figure I've seen... and none of them had sideburns

Like many figures, I'd say Andre's likenesses could be improved, but I'd also say there are many figures who have much worse likenesses (legends and current stars).
I agree with OP that they haven't quite nailed it, but I've never seen one and felt like it's way off or didn't look like Andre to me.
And I'd like a TrueFX scary Andre with the big eyes, too.

I think they’re doing a pretty good job with Andre actually. The Matty exclusive with the 5 o’clock shadow is still a great likeness. The Wrestlemania Heritage figure with the mania 3 cart would make an amazing young Andre if they added the fro. The Giant Machine head is just kind of blah, but it still looks like him. I love all of the heads that came with the Ultimate. The only one I can say I don’t like is the Amazon young Andre, and that’s probably mostly because the gums aren’t painted - although I do wish the hair was more froish. I don’t think they really captured the body though, and the Ultimate in particular feels too thin. Otherwise I have no real complaints. Andre is my top 5, so if I had an issue with his likeness I’d have been complaining about it. Unlike with some figures you can always tell who it’s supposed to be without having to look at the attire.
