Okay, this has been on my mind for years so time to rant.
Not sure when tables were first used in wrestling but they have been fairly prominent in what the last 30+ years? During all 30 of these years there have been toy companies making wrestling figures. And not only that but other toy lines in 1/12th scale such as super heroes, tv shows, horror characters, etc.
So why on earth has no toy company, especially jakks/mattel and current wrestling figure companies been able to make an accurate wood folding table?
The first jakks ones are to date the most accurate IMO as they had the metal ring under the bottom, it was painted back, had a painted wood grain top and had correct looking legs. But even this model wasn't accurate to the tables used throughout most of the WWF days and ruthless aggression era and beyond. This table mold was too short length wise and too wide. The tables used on TV were longer and shorter in width, didn't have deep wood grain lines and the legs are attached underneath about 6''-1'+ in from the ends.
Mattel tables are a disgrace, obsoletely no effort put into the thought of the new mold. "Hey lets make the tables completely black, change the breakaway gap to go diagonal so its hard to put a figure through them and slap a hideous WWE logo on it and we'll continue to not paint them for years to come!"
I do appreciate ringsides attempt as at least they painted theirs and added something new (the 3 piece breakaway feature) but again, this mold is still too short and too wide, also the legs on these look a bit odd going at a 45 degree angle. Adding the table leg rubber molds were a nice touch though. Still inaccurate...
Boss Fight Studio Legends of Lucha Libre: I have no clue if mexico has different style tables like japan does but the legs on their mold look weird, I don't personally own one of these but the wood texture looks probably the most accurate out of all of these, but the edges are square which again, adds to more inaccuracies.
Jazwares: This mold is again, way too wide, and not long enough, this one seems to be the biggest and almost seems out of scale, lazy black molds like mattel, and their "brown" version of it is barely brown, almost a dark gold. Disappointing like most of these
Toybiz WCW: This thing was small, the legs looked like they were made of metal, almost like someones DIY garage workbench or something with NWO etched in, this had break away action but mini compared to most figures, rough edges and really didn't look like a folding table.
Toybiz TNA: I believe they had 2 versions, one came with AJ styles in the TNA IMPACT line, this table was small and had no breakaway action. The second mold they made was for one of the 2 packs that I believe got reused for D-von's figure. This one just looked off, the sides were thick, table legs were skinny and looked like it was from a middle school in the 70's or something
ECW OSFTM: This could be the first wrestling figure table but correct me if im wrong. While the time this came out im sure it was innovative but holy cr*p, this thing looks like a kitchen table in someones trailer home. The legs didn't fold either.
I am hoping some company, whether its a wrestling figure company or marvel, DC, horror, whatever can eventually just make a good brown wood table mold accessory for 1/12 figures. One that is long, short enough in width, has a smoothish brown painted top with breakaway action (either 2 or 3 pieces). Has correct looking legs with rubber feet molds in them and attach to the table inward on the bottom from the edges. Has the black metal ring underneath the table, which would be cool if that snapped into place as well so when you throw a figure through it it can come off like some table spots done in the past. And enough of a side edge to paint black for the outter rubber, and finally rounded edges in the corners like real tables.
If you don't know what im talking about look up Hardy boy TLC matches or WWE table compilations on youtube.
