That isn't the only news we got from the NWA office, however. In the month of May, as some of you already know, our own Mike Quackenbush captured the NWA World Junior Heavyweight title from Tiger Mask IV at Fight Sports Midwest. Since then, the NWA has been trying to line up title defenses for the Quackster, with mixed results. A supposed title bout opposite Ultimo Dragon, which would have taken place in Japan just this past weekend, fell apart at the last minute. The NWA is resolute that Quack must defend the title in the coming weeks per their championship guidelines. In response to this Mike Quackenbush had this to say: "I know the NWA has been in talks with a laundry list of international stars trying to put together a title bout for the World Junior title. I want to be clear about this - I am hiding from no one. Name anyone you want the number one contender, anyone at all, and send them to Philly on August 5. I'll meet them in the middle of the ring at 'Maximum Overdraft.'"

"It is with pronounced disappointment that I write to tell you that for the 4th time in my long, winding career, my scheduled Japan debut has fallen through. According to original plans, I was to have left the US last Thursday to defend my NWA World Junior title on the debut show for Simon and Antonio Inoki's IGF. Thrilling as this prospect was, I was even more elated to discover that the Inokis were pursuing Ultimo Dragon as my opponent, and for a time, that was the scheduled match.
"As fate would have it, the match that ended up in our place was Rocky Romero vs. El Blazer, which I'm sure was a fine contest. It isn't what I wanted, nor what the NWA brass wanted, but that's what we ended up with. In order to participate on this card, I had to cancel all my bookings between 6/28 and 7/1, including an important IWA:MS show in Philadelphia. But, for this opportunity, I felt it was worth it, and the promoters that had hired me were more than understanding. Thank goodness.
"Apparently, things fell apart on Dragon's end, and it has something to do with the controversy that follows the NWA Junior title. I saw a bit of this myself, the night I won it from Tiger Mask IV. Regardless, I am disappointed and a bit embarrassed that nothing came of this match. Now, instead of Dragon, the NWA is attempting to name a new # 1 contender for the belt. That's great. Pick anyone. I'm not hard to find. Send them to the ECW Arena on August 5, and I will make my first defense there, on my home turf, at CHIKARA."
Sounds like pretty common....as in craphappens. Forget what some internet message boards would have you believe. It wasnt a conspiracy. Ian didnt drop the ball. And Quack did not lie to get out of a booking. Sometimes things are just what they are and nothing more.
