...hypothetically speaking.  Who would you book him against, presuming that the return is in ROH. As well as that any body, not just on the ROH roster, can be his opponent/s. Me, i'd book a six man no matter how pointless it may seem. CM Punk, Nigel McGuinness, and Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black, Jimmy Jacobs, and The Necro Butcher The match seems like a quality one and Punk can represent himself as the ROH savior. |

Because with 1 match the most you can get is Punk having a quality environment and chance to make your guys look good. If I book Punk vs Nigel, on my own account... let's say it's non-title and Punk wins. Nigel could put on a stellar performance, but him losing is final and can't be avenged or followed-up on. My six man basically would be Punk as a tie-in against the Age of the Fall, similar to them bringing in their own surprise opposition. I'd build the match with Punk's influence, if I could. But I'd know that I'd profit more from Punk by getting him in a scenario that isn't totally predictable or black and white which some fans may see a 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 as being. I'd want Punk's presence to be more effective than his performance, so I wouldn't have an immediate backlash due to the hype. |
