I just read about this accident in Minnesota and I'd like to know if anyone has a good expalination as to why buses dont have seatbelts in them...it's been like this for years and personally i think is BS..the states promote wearing seatblets but dont have it enforced on a school bus!

I heard about that on the local news, was suprised to hear people died. Some buses out there do have seatbelts, like the bus in place of my regular bus today had a seatbelt in each of the seats for some reason. I think the reason why they don't is because buses are supposed to carry massive amounts of humanity, and seatbelts would kinda get in the way.

Yep. On a related note someone should make seatbelt extenders and have them located in all stores. As someone who is 350 lbs I can't use a seat belt because I get suffocated when it locks up.
Edit: maybe instead of pulling over cars to make there records look better they should just pull over a bus once a day. They could make a lot of money off each bus. We also wouldn't have to pay as much taxes to the police because the bus companies would have too pay. They could also have to buy more stuff for buses. The state could also give a discount for the seatbelts too be put in. There fore boosting the economy. Heck we need a major boost since Britney Spears is turning normal leaving us needing too find ways to make that 420 million for our economy we'll be losing.

I was actually told back in school that seat belts were safety hazards...How i dunno, unless its the process of having to unbuckle 100 kids to get them out of a bus thats on fire

Every school bus I've been on had a max speed of 10 kph. We're safe.

In the UK, at my school if we ever use a bus (which happens like 4 times a year) they're like modified buses to have seatbelts.

A lot of younger kids seriously don't know how to work a seatbelt. If there was a wreck that required them to get out of the bus quickly they'd all be screwed.

nothing that concerns me. I like the fact the busses we have for my school have no seat belts, its great for the mornings on the way to wrestling meets where you just wanna lay down and the ride back when youre tired as hell

I didn't know the reason. but in UK, they got very strict about health & safety compare in USA. So ALL mini bus MUST have seat-belt.
I was worked with young people (I am youth worker, though) if the mini bus have no seat belt or seat belt broken, so we all can't use the mini bus beacuse of health & safety issues.
But I am sort of not understand, because bus do not got seat belt etc , but coach does have one and must wear it while the coach movement, but lots of people skip the seatbelt.

On the bus I get there is seatbelts but its better quality than all the Buses my friends get on which don't have seatbelts but if there was seatbelts on School Buses nobody would wear them anyway as nobody does on my bus. Even know it says on the seats please wear seatbelts at all times shouldn't the driver check the kids have there seatbelts on?

Perhaps it's because kids would have a difficult time undoing them. I dont know, its just a shame.

I don't think taking them off has any thing to do with it.

In Ireland, Seat belts wear you. Its actually the law over here to have seat belts on buses (school ones in particular) as there was a crash over here before and a few people were killed

1. It could be used as a weapon on the bus 2. When a student has to get off the bus they have to get off the bus quickly. 3. If there was a emergency on the bus they do not have time for everybody to unbuckle there seatbelt 4.If they did make them nobody would wear them anyways.

I don't know if you know this or not, but all automobile makers in the US are required to provide free seatbelt extenders for their vehicles. You just have to ask for them, and usually they have to order them for you. But they are free. You just need to go tothe dealer, and tell them what type of vehicle you need them for.
