Hero? How the is he a hero? He killed 2 people for no reason. Yes, no reason. Breaking into your house is not a reason to shoot someone. He should go to jail for life. So, if someone broke into your house while you were there, you would roll out the red carpet for them? Help them load up their truck with your possesions? Stand there while they rape and murder your family? Perhaps ask them to sit for a cup of tea while you advise the local authorities? Seriously, look no further than what happened to Sean Taylor recently when people break into your house while you are there.

Somebody breaking into your house is more then enuf reason to shoot them. If someone breaks into your house, they have criminal intentions. criminal intentions can be anything like stealing, rape, abuse, harrasment, or murder. and if you kill them to stop them, thats perfectly legal. ------- on the main subject, he shouldnt be in any trouble, and if you listen to the tape you can cleary tell its has nothing to do with them being black. He said he doesnt know this particular neigher too well, thats why hes calling the cops. he said had it been the other house, with people he knows very well, he would have never called and taken action by then. in the tape, he never calls them black, or anything so hes not even paying attention to their race. also, as soon as they set foot on his lawn he was sble to shoot because why would they be on his lawn instead of just running? they were headed towards him and he took action.

I did not say you couldn't take a bat and hit them with that. I don't advise killing them. Do whatever you can without killing them. They broke in and started shooting when they saw him. They didn't give him enough time to react. So, shooting is ok if they break in. If they walk into a store and steal, is it ok to shoot them? How about if they look like they will do it? Why don't we just round up all the people that look suspicious and that way we won't have to worry.

I think he did what he felt he had to do. Screw that race card.

One reason so many people steal is because they arren't afraid of the consequences. Not getting shot is a good motivator for me. Is this old man really supposed to take out two young men by himself with a bat? What if they take the bat from him, and beat him to death with it? Is that a more favorable outcome? Or are two criminals being killed during the commission of a crime more favorable? I mean, ideally, you don't want to kill someone, but most likely he went outside to confront them, and tell them to leave, and they began to approach him? What else should he have done? They obviously weren't afraid of him even knowing that he had a gun, since they were going towards him. He did the right thing, and I wish more people would do the same thing, so that maybe less idiots would do stupid things like break into people's houses.

Good for him. Those pricks were a threat to society and deserved what they had coming.

despite what this quote, and apparently many members of this forum believe, those that steal absolutely do not deserve death. if these individuals are in the position where they are willing to risk going to jail for whatever petty theft they were committing, they are obviously poeple in unfortunate circumstances whether self inflicted or not. they are still people.
unless they did actually come at him, in which case it was self protection.

Reminds me of the neighbor that used to be across my street, before she died. She kept a gun, a very nice one, needless to say the high school kids would try to rob her. She would shoot them. That's why I liked her, if someone was to try and break into our house while we were away, SHE WOULD SHOOT THEM. Never any problem with the police or anything, she gave them fair warning. Nice lady. Now the people that are in her house now seem to get robbed once or twice a year.
Anyway, he's neither a hero or killer. Hero would mean he protected people for a greater good, he simply shot two people. Technically he is a killer because he killed two people, but in the sense that he meant to do it because he wanted to, no. Protection. Nothing will happen and the "New Black Panthers" need to get over it, they brought race into it, no one else did.

They didn't attempt to break in his home, but a nearby home in his neighborhood.
I wouldn't call him a hero in any sense of the word, but I'm not suggesting he should be punished.

Why does it have to be racist, just because the 2 theives were black? I hate how just because they happened to be black, and he happened to be white, it's suddenly racially motivated. I'm sure he would have done the same thing had the 2 theives been white and come after him for attempting to stop them. A- ING-MEN! This is seriously the problem with everything in this world. I may have to cut my sig down so I can sig this.

I was wondering what made this so newsworthy before I read this.. Mr. Horn is white. The two dead men -- Miguel Antonio DeJesus, 38, and Diego Ortiz, 30 -- were black.

Yeah, a threat of death sure stops people. If it did, the death penalty would be a deterrent.

They were on my yard, who knows what they were going to do. You're just being a piss pot now. Someone coming at you with the intent to harm you because you've witnessed them committing a crime, and someone just cutting through your garden as a shortcut are different things entirely. The running through your garden to get to another house is rude of them, but they don't have the intentions of killing you. If you're going to compare something to make a point, at least have good connections between the two.

I hate that they pull racism into something like this. It's not his fault the people robbing the house were black. It's not like he's a member of the KKK and just saw 2 random black guys on the street. He's not wrong in this instance.. however, he's no hero.
