I guess that actually happens a lot more than people hear about. My uncle is head of maintenence at the U of Iowa and he says they have to "clean up" after suicides a few times every year.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students. - usna.edu/MDC/Clinical/suicide/collegefacts.htm it's a huge problem, depression in students at college. that's sad to hear of your fellow student. |

Not only is college a really stressful place, but people in college don't seek help, they're afraid of being seen as weak or less of a person, so they never get help and end up like the person in this story. It's sad, really, and as a depression survivor, that has the disease rampant throughout my family, it's one of the few things that really makes me sad and angry at our culture.

This happens a lot too. More than statistics will show. At my school they make postings at all doors on campus of rapes on-campus, but considering about 3/8 of the school commutes, that's a small fraction. Also factoring the "don't ask, don't tell" unofficial policy of some, it's really unsettling.

Yah they sent out an email that a person had "fallen" and "gotten hurt" but it is confirmed by the news that it was a girl, suicide and she IS dead. 5 story ramp garage fall. The weird thing is when i park on the top I always think to myself how there are no fences on the top anyone could jump or fall especially if drunk and now someone jumped from the very spot i look off every day.

I've only lived on college campuses as a refugee, but the lives that 90% of those kids seem to have thrown at them hardly qualifies as an issue worth killing oneself over. Excuse me while I reserve my sympathy.

Never go to college, you're too smart. Well said, i'm a goth myself But yet i don't think about suicide or try and kill myself. Men and woman in their 30's self-harm and commit suicide You don't have to just be a teenager or a emo/goth It's a sad thing to hear though Nothing is worth killing yourself over, it's just at collage students don't really get the help they need. |
