I'm not an expert, but I'm probably the closest you'll find to it on this board as far as the legality here. I do believe you could be charged with obstruction of justice if you don't turn him in. A lot of it would depend largely on how willing the officers would be to press charges. A lot of times they don't care, but sometimes they do. It really depends.
Personally, I'm not entirely sure turning him in will help. It sounds like your friend is really immature and unwilling to stand up and take responsibility for his actions. Turning him in doesn't really force him to do that. He could still go to jail and refuse to take responsibility for what he did. When he gets out, he'll go back to doing the same thing. I hate tell you you don't have any options, but I'm not sure you do other than telling him this. Let him know that he needs to grow up, be a man and accept responsibility. If he's not willing to do that, then you can't force a person to change.

Call Dog the bounty hunter. lmao! That's STUPID programmer that I seen. But I do find it out funny when Duane "Dog" Chapman and Beth (The dog's wife) was argued over minor thing. And when they found bad person (arrest him or her) then sort of make new friends with them, such as offer smoking, or stop the jeep and get out of the jeep and chatting, etc.

As people have already said, the fact that you know about the burglary means that if you don't give up the information, you could be charged with a crime yourself.
Of course, if they never catch him, they'll never know you had information on the crime, and you'll both be in the clear. But if they catch him on their own, and find out later on that you had information you willingly withheld, you could be in some trouble, too.
And the fact that you're putting your knowledge of the crime in writing on a public message board is not a great idea, either, since you're basically creating evidence that can be used against your friend (and possibly you).

helping him out would be turning him in. Helping him out, by not turning him in, will make the cops think he is running from them, which will make them just want to find him more. Besides, he wasn't helping out those people when he robbed them, so why should you help him out? I agree. Turn him in if you really want to help him out. He did something wrong and need to pay some time. Maybe then he'll reflect and realize what he did was wrong & maybe even end up turning his life around.

My uncle is a cop so I know this. TURN HIM IN. You do, whoopie. You don't, you can and if they find if your covering up for him you WILL be charged with Obstruction of Justice. He needs to learn from his mistakes. You do the crime you do the time. If it was your stuffed robbed and his best friend covered for him, how would you feel?

Find out where he is, and tattle on him. Stealing from other people is ing low. ...yeah, I said "tattle." That really is the only thing you can do. That, or wash your hands of the situation. If you get involved in any way the cops could potentially charge you with something.

I know i should turn him in but i dont think it will help as Hulkamaniac said he needs to grow up and accept the responsibility instead of me turning him in and him coming out and doing it again.

So i dont know whats going to happen but ill fill you in as i hear. i think that was the right thing to do. you don't wanna get yourself caught up in his trouble, but you can't turn your friend in, that's just s**tty to do. let the police worry about catching him, but don't turn your friends in. unless he's like a crazy rapist serial murderer, then you kinda have to protect other people, but he's not hurting anyone except himself in the long run so let him go on about his way i guess & whatever happens happens.

I don't see how you guys could do that man ive known him for years as are sisters were best friends so we have known each other since young.. i would like to see him turn himself in but if i " Tattle " and turn him in the police will be to late he only stays in the same place for about 10 mins. I'm not trying to be mean here, but if you really knew him you wouldnt even have to ask. He messed up. Period. Now he needs to pay for his mistakes. Think how you would feel if someone did that to you're house & his best friend covered for him. You'd be pissed wouldnt you? Yeah but many people on here havent been in that situation Your gonna hurt somoneone either way but itll be better to turn him in i say

Turn him in. If he gets caught, then something could happen, and you could get slapped with a Contempt of Court charge, and you do not want that.
