Here it is freezing cold and of course my car was iced over when I got off work. I'm realizing quickly how much I hate scraping ice and how much I miss having a covered parking area where I work. Honestly, there must be a more efficient way of clearing ice off a windshield than hacking at it with a plastic blade. I need to invent a better ice scraper.

I usually start the car, turn on the defrost on high heat, and scraping off the ice only takes a couple of minutes. But definitely buy one of the heavy duty ice scrapers, they work much better, and are worth the extra couple of dollars.

get some alcohol, put it in a spray bottle, spray the ice, light a match, throw it on the windshield...
it'll melt the ice/soften and itll quickly go out by itself....
then just start the windshield wipers

Chill, try using other methods that were mention. Maybe get a better quality scraper or a different one of some sort that may reduce the time and effort put into the ardurous task.

I'm a wuss when it comes to cold so it's a combination of it being cold and literally having a good 1/8 inch of ice and sometimes more to scrape off. The frost that comes right off is one thing. This stuff you have to chip into just to get down to the glass. It sucks.

I usually try to find a spot on the corner where there is little to know ice, and once you can get under the ice in one spot, the rest usually comes off quick. It sucks worse when you don't have an ice scraper, and you have to use a cd case or something. That was an awful night.

the cold gets to me hardcore. i don't know if it's because of low body fat, bad circulation or what but i literally cannot operate in cold weather, it's like i start to shut down. ing sucks, considering i live in ontario, canada which can enjoy some ing cold winters. needless to say, i get my buddy to scrape the ice on the car.

The same thing happened to me this morning. It didn't help that after the hour ordeal (yes, it took an hour, one side was about 1/4 inch thick) I made it halfway home before freezing rain started coming down, my wipers buried beneath a few inches of ice.

Can you do me a favor and send your buddy my way? There's a covered parking garage about two blocks from where I work. I'm seriously considering parking there all winter.

Once you've dispatched my friend here: ...could you reroute him up to New England so he can pick up all the people who've been living here since birth who still find the need to gawk, moan, and bitch about the snow and ice storms? Knock, knock! Who's there? REGIONAL CLIMATE!!!

They have windshield washer fluid heaters. They aren't exactly intended to remove ice, but they get the job done. You never, ever want to use hot water on ice when you have a chip or a crack though.
