Hello everyone. I am a teenager and I feel a bit peculiar this holiday. Ive been asking my parents for a new system to surpass my 2002 PS2 since july (xbox and/or wii) and my mom said the other day, to my face that I wouldnt get one for christmas. I said she was cheap and she got my dad to beat my ass because of it. so im going to have to take money out of my bank account and get one in february when theyre actually in stores. I would have got one last january but i didnt like the games. but now theres resident evil, guitar hero, and brawl with snake off metal gear. my god i wish i had a wii. I also asked for some "cool" shirts (hollister and that ****) and she said they were to expensive. two other things I really want are a nano ipod (all i have is a shuffle) and a Real cell phone (i have a trackphone, and am severely ridiculed for it)
It just depresses me that my lower middle class family cant afford all of the things cool people have. Parents spoil theyre children, these spoiled children set precedents, and anyone below the bar is deemed a loser (ie me!)
HOWEVER I realize that these material goods dont mean jack ****. Im not going to let society form me into someone im not. Why is the world so matierialistic? Did anyone else ever go through this or currently going through this? How did you cope with it and what did you do? God I cant wait till highschools over.
Thanks for listening.

ofcourse you're gonna get a lot of posts that tell you to 'suck it up', but truth be told i know exactly what you're saying. it's really shitty man, i know, to grow up being expected to accept that you have to live below other's, to a degree. thankfully, usually the kids that get everyone they want are more ed up than the kids that don't.

I understand where you're coming from. I had to pay for my own class ring and I didn't get my letterman's jacket because "I" couldn't afford it. But it could be worse for you. At least you have both your parents and they aren't crackheads(hopefully).

Yeah, I understand. I was kinda spoiled growing up so I feel like I was kinda babied growing up. But, I started working at my job last summer when I turned 18 and worked my ass off. Getting older sucks but it has it perks like making your own money and owning your own things, I bought my PS3 and my Car yeah. I love that.
Life gets better, just bare with it for a while. Your parents do sound a bit cheap though, $400 bucks isn't jack today.

What the hell kind of point are you supposed to be making here? Stop going with the grain . . . you don't have to. Be grateful for what you do get.

not everyone can 'go against the grain'. a lot of people can't take the kind of psychological pressure that being different than everyone else can induce.

Man, if wearing Hollister, a class ring, a varsity jacket, and having a Nano is cool nowadays, society must be down the shitter.
Here's what you do.
1.) Gratefully accept everything you get for Christmas 2.) Ask for receipts 3.) Return everything 4.) Get a Wii/360
Or you can get a job...that helps.

Get a part time or full time job at Hollisgay like I did, make money, take advantage of their 50% discounts, make more money, meet some girls, and buy the stuff you want, when you want.

Thanks boss. Yeah, I understand. I was kinda spoiled growing up so I feel like I was kinda babied growing up. But, I started working at my job last summer when I turned 18 and worked my ass off. Your parents do sound a bit cheap though, $400 bucks isn't jack today. Thanks for the reply and agreeing with the theory on my parents. Besides, what Ive been really asking for is a Wii and thats only 250. And 360's only 270 for the cheap model. I understand where you're coming from. I had to pay for my own class ring and I didn't get my letterman's jacket because "I" couldn't afford it. But it could be worse for you. At least you have both your parents and they aren't crackheads(hopefully). I see. Good reply. Thanks. My dad agreed to get me a class ring as long as it was the cheap metal, and now that I have it the paints chipping and tarnishing. But Im not much of a ring guy anyway, but I got one cause, again, society and my "friends" getting them, and dad bought my brother one. What the hell kind of point are you supposed to be making here? Stop going with the grain . . . you don't have to. Be grateful for what you do get. I guess you didn't read my last paragraph. Man, if wearing Hollister, a class ring, a varsity jacket, and having a Nano is cool nowadays, society must be down the ****ter. I really hope your being sarcastic. Otherwise your probably anti social. And proud of it. Fight that power. With them views, you wouldnt last a day in a modern high school surrounding.

No I was in no way anti-social in high school...in fact almost my entire class was friends, good friends. I just didn't think our standards are that low now. I had no clue high school had a uniform. I guess it's a matter of intelligence and acceptance. We had a few narrow minded kids, but for the most part no one really cared about crap like that.

The world is so materialistic because you're letting it become so. By chasing the "gold", so to speak, you're just feeding the fire.
I would have smacked you too if you called me cheap for not buying you an X-Box.

I guess it's a matter of intelligence and acceptance. We had a few narrow minded kids, but for the most part no one really cared about crap like that. I see. Sorry to be so quick on the gun there. To many kids watch these MTV style shows of rich spoiled kids and other similar scenarios and suddenly they need to be the same. I didnt even know what Hollister was until last year where everyone had their shirts. I thinks theyre just to much of an emocial preppy spoiled baby epidemic amung young people, while kids with not-so-rich families and old school family values are a victim of this opression. I'll be honest; loser kids dont like me because they think Im to cool cause I play football and hang with cool kids. Cool kids dont think Im cool cause, the point of this topic, Im not up to par. Im just a friendless joke. I havent gotten invited to one birthday party this year, and I hear about a lot of extravagent sweet sixteens going on. And girls, never talk to me. Even some loser genious guy who talks with a lisp has a girlfriend. And that guy is probably my best friend. I hang around the house all day, just fueling more hate between me and my parents. Im not smart, and I dont have any money. I live in a hick town where there is not many job opportunities. I just think, that if I chase the "Gold" Ill be more accepted. The thing is, its not just society: I really think an ipod is awesome, and It would help me enjoy life. The sames with the Wii. I think its amazing inovation. I do think that AE and Hollister shirts are really nice and cool looking. However, I do have a cellphone that works when I need it to, and it even has a (small, non flash or zoom) camera. I think one of the reasons that I collect wrestler figures (the reason I came to this site) is cause I want to relive my toy infested childhood, because my current life is a wreck. Another thing I dont understand in society, is myspace. I had one, and I only had about 5 friends but they never talk or respond back. and all the comments I ever got said "your gay" or had some random sex joke graphic. I dont hate it because of sex offenders, i hate it because people think its cool. Maybe its just natural, encoded into human DNA, to want more and what other people have. I can't overcome these urges though. I know that bitching about it Im glad this board has a lounge, so I can vent my problems. Thanks everyone for reading. The world is so materialistic because you're letting it become so. By chasing the "gold", so to speak, you're just feeding the fire. I would have smacked you too if you called me cheap for not buying you an X-Box. Hm. Im not letting it become so. Im just a realist. And I feel like going through life and enjoying it as much as possible. I see you get joy out of making fun of 15 year old kids. Let me ask you this; did you just post something negative cause most other responses here were positive? I know what you common internet folk are like. This aint my first rodeo.

No, I posted something negative because you come off as a little bitch. I'd say the same negative thing if you were two feet in front of me.
Wah wah wah. My mommy won't buy me a Wii. Wah wah wah. Kids at school make fun of me 'cause I don't have an iPod or a Wii.
If you cry this much in real life, then no, none of these things are going to make you more accepted. What you need to do is grow a set, accept that not everyone has golden opportunity thrown at them, and yeah, in spite of whatever hick town you live in, if you want life to improve you're going to have to take it by the reins, and do it yourself.
I feel no pity for your sad wreck of a life. I don't own a Wii, or an iPod, or a nice cell phone, or one god damned Hollister shirt, and I'm accepted amongst my peers just fine.

There's no hope for you. Not without a Wii, of course. You should just throw in the towel now. How could someone live without a $45 shirt in today's society?
Dad should beat you senseless next time. You trendy teenagers and your cellular phones are exactly what's wrong with this world. You sound the most ungrateful kid in the world, caught up in a jealous rage that you don't have any Ambercrombie & Fitch t-shirts. Get a life. There are more important things out there than the latest fads.
God, now I'm ranting...

I was going to respond to your post, but my Burnout Paradise demo on Xbox Live is just about finished loading and I'm thinking about downloading Beyond Oasis from the Wii's virtual console while I'm at it.

Just as I suspected, the negative people come in the night. I was going to respond to your post, but my Burnout Paradise demo on Xbox Live is just about finished loading and I'm thinking about downloading Beyond Oasis from the Wii's virtual console while I'm at it. Yeah, yeah your just adding fuel to the fire. But see if I really care.

I gotta agree with this. Whether you mean to or not, byou come off as really whiny. You're crying and complaining because you're parents are too "cheap" to get you a Wii. As we all know, most parents will buy their kids a Wii becaus the kid needs it. That's complete bullshit. Parents don't owe their kids anything beyond food on the table and clothes on their back. The sooner you learn that if you want something in this world you've gotta get off your ass and get it the better off you'll be. Also, the sooner you figure out that trying to keep up with the Jones is a horrible idea the better off you'll be too.

The kid was beaten by his dad. His dad's an abusive prick and his mother ing allows it, and that turns kids into pricks. It's no wonder why the kid comes off as a little douche angry at the world and why he can rub people, like me, in the wrong way.
