LAKE WALES - The suspect wanted in connection with a robbery in Lake Wales turned himself into a Polk County Sheriffs substation Thursday evening.
Police had been searching for Leon Davis after two women working in a Lake Wales insurance office were set on fire during a robbery attempt..
Police say that Davis walked into the Nationwide insurance office in Lake Wales, and attempted to rob the employees inside. Police said he then set two women inside on fire.
The two employees inside have burns over 80 percent of her body. One report said one of the women is five months pregnant.
According to police Davis went outside the building after the attempted robbery, yelling that the building was on fire. Then he shot a man outside the business; that victim was transported to Lake Wales Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
A witness followed the suspect from the scene to a house nearby. Police searched the area around the house with K9 units but could not find Davis.
According to one witness, Davis is a former customer of the agency.
A woman who said she used to be a manager of the office said he was not a problematic customer.
"He was always very nice, laughing, never any problems," she said.
Both women inside the business were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
