my girlfriends mom was supposivly looking for the phone in her room, but me and her know that her mom was goin threw her room and she found her ashtray. so shes grounded until next friday when her parents are givin her a tobacco test. her parents and both of her brothers smoke, so even if she doesnt smoke until then, could the second hand smoke from everyone else cause her to fail the test even if she hadn't smoked?

She's 15. Her brother is 16, almost 17 and her half-brother is 19.
Her parents have givin up basicly on trying to get her 16 year old brother to stop smoking because he wont stop no matter how much he gets busted for it. He can go around the house smoking most of the time. Her mom would just tell him to go outside or somethin, which is weird because her half-brother and he parents smoke in the house all the time. But her dad would freak out on him if he caught him in the house. He has like 5 ashtrays just sittin in his room out in the open.

A tobacco test doesn't test for tobacco, it tests for cotinine, which is found in second hand smoke. It be found in the body for I think up to 5 days.

I've never heard of a tobacco test before. Still she is underage to be smoking. It's 16 (I think) here in the states.

i think it's complete bullshit, shes getting in crapfor smoking. they're being hypocrites by it. they smoke so why should they stop her? yes, it's a nasty habbit and can cause much more problems later in life. but its her lungs, so they should just let her do what she wants

I don't want to be the one to break it to you, but she'll probably end up failing it. Just tell her to stop smoking and that'll be the end to that problem for a while.

She's quitting and I'm quitting with her just so I don't feel bad about me still being able to. I read that the nicotene will stay in your system 72 to 96 hours (3 to 4 days). And I also read that trace residue can stay in urine and blood for up to a year. So I'm thinking that if the tests are extremely sensitive, she could end up failing the tests for up to a year, even if shes clean.

I'm thinking UK for some reason. These parents are obviously bungholes. They're trying to stop their daughter from a) breaking the law and b) making a ridiculously foolish decision that will negatively impact the rest of her life. Damn what sucky parents they are.

a good parent would just be PARENTAL and PRESENT. keep a close eye on thier kid and wait for them to either slip up, encoutner them while they smell like smoke, et cetera. the fact that the entire family smokes as well turns this into a running joke.
taking a tobacco test is BEYOND ridiculous, any way you want to swing it. it should in no way correlate with 'good parenting.' i cant believe some of you, i really cant. can you be that backwards?
