Just thought I'd post some pics of a couple of my African Cichlids. It's very difficult to get a pic because they don't stop moving when I go near the tank. They always think they are going to get fed and go crazy. Also there is a pic of one of my Bamboo Shrimp. Red Zebra Kenyi Johanni Yellow Lab Bamboo Shrimp Eventually I'll try to get pics of all my fish if I can.

Nice pics there Jack. Good to see your affection for animals is still running red hot. You have some pretty nice fish there. The pic of Johanni looks great. Are the fish actually large, small or what? Can't really tell based on the pics.

I am jealous of your aquarium. I have always wanted one that size. I really want a salt water aquarium. But that will have to wait.

I've always wanted a salt water aquarium. About how much did you invest in that? I already have two very nice 10 gallon tanks I wanted to first start with a non salt tank to see if I can keep up with the maintenance and care of the fish, then move to salt. I haven't had one since my dad was still alive and he took care of everything.

I love fish and your tank looks awesome. I would think the Africans would harass or try to eat the bamboo shrimp. They're larger shrimp, but not really aggressive.

I'm seriously considering changing my 55g to SW, but I'm not sure I want to sink the money into it and I don't know if I have the time.

It's not that I'm starting with 10g, it's just that that's what I have sitting unused in my basement at the time, ha. If I have em I might as well use em, and save the money.

That's pretty neat. I don't have the patience to care for fish.

That's pretty neat. I don't have the patience to care for fish. Fish are far easier to care for than any other critter I've come across. You feed them every day and change the water once a week. It takes me about 30-45 mins to change the water in 5 tanks once a week. Compare that to a dog that you have to feed every day, walk, spend time with, take to the vet, groom, etc... and even then the dang thing might pee on your carpet or tear up your favorite pair of shoes.

My tank is freshwater 38 gallon. It was a xmas gift from my wife. The mbuna's I have will get around 4 to 6 inches. I got them as juveniles but they are growing fast. I couldn't afford to stock the tank with ones already large. I also have 4 Giant Danios as dither fish to control their aggression. which does actually work.
I had 2 shrimp which I put in first then the fish so as the fish did not establish their territories first. I had one shrimp either die or get killed though and it happened 2 days ago. He moulted for the second time and was not really trying to hide for some reason. After they moult they are very soft and are supposed to hide until they harden up again. When went to check on him all that was left was a little piece of him that the fish were feasting on. I was and am very sad. It won't happen again though. My other one is ready to moult and I got myself one of those holding things for fry. I will put him in it right after he moults then ina couple of days when he hardens back up will release him back.
If you notice there is a cup towards the back. It's now hidden with another cave. There's also a bag next to it that's hidden. They contain crushed coral along with a bag of it in one of my filters. I use that as a PH buffer because Lake Malawi (the African lake they are from) has a very high PH level.
