iPod. It's features are better than the zune's, and iTunes is WAY better than the zune software. I got an 80 gb for christmas, no regrets.

I like the Zune hardware a lot. BUT, the software blows. The screen is nicer on the Zune, but the interface isn't as nice.

30 gb iPod never failed me, had it for years, iTunes is easy as hell to understand.
A close friend of mine got a Zune, and we both saw - - It's complicated. It's annoying. Getting music on it for starters is NOT simple.
Then he got a 30 gb iPod like mine, and it corrupted.
Moral of the story: Get an iPod, but get a good warranty on the sum-bitch.

I paid about half the price of an Ipod for my 30gb Zune which has a much larger screen and clearer video. The sound quality isn't as good as the Ipod however, and the Zune's software is nowhere near as nice as Itunes.
You will get better sound from an Ipod, but if portable movie watching is your thing, then I would suggest the Zune.
Please note, I am talking about the older Zune - I heard their new one has greatly improved over the model I own.

Zune in a nutshell: Hardware is fantastic, firmware is very good, software is absolutely abysmal, but it's pretty. If you can deal with random song duplications, minimal tag editing, unexplainable album art degradation, and lots of converting files that are supposed to be compatible, then by all means the Zune is fine. I'm not trying to "bash" the Zune because it really is a wonderful device, it's just the software holds it back. They tried to make it cutting edge or whatever and totally ed it up. They attempted to simplify it to the degree where it becomes ironically frustrating since some of the "well duh" features are either missing or simply not that good. Instead of dragging and dropping album art like in the previous version, you have to save it and then direct the art where to go. When you have hundreds of cds like I do, it's a royal pain in the ass. The automatic album art find feature continuously comes up with really pixelated and low quality images, so you wind up doing it yourself anyway. Then your library might sporadically change from time to time and things wind up in albums they aren't supposed to be in. It makes no sense at all and results in a lot of rearranging. I also find that when I try to change titles in the software it won't even stick, it'll just revert back to what it was originally called. I hate the software, I really do. I don't use the Marketplace so I couldn't tell you how that is. I guess one good thing about the software is that it rips cds no problem. Now as far as the actual Zune, I have next to no complaints. It has a nice and big screen - very clear. Navigating through miscellaneous files is fairly straight forward. Lots of customizable options, too. The sleep mode will drain the battery fast but if you turn it off (hold the left button and down I think) the battery is fine. I have one of the earlier 30GB models so maybe it's different for the others. All around it's a good product once you get the kinks out and learn how to tolerate the software. Just know what you're getting into before buying it.

Just know what you're getting into before buying it. wow. That right there is seriously whats up, and one of the best, most honest reviews of the Zune I've seen. I went through hours upon hours of frustration and annoyance to properly tag edit, and get the album art for my very large music collection I already had. But, after I did all of that, it was WELL worth it. Once you get the hang of how tricky the software can be, its pretty easy to work with. Bottom line, the Zunes interface is just 10x better than the Ipods...I for one think that even just the feature of having a customizable background makes it way better, just because thats what you're looking at all the time. You actually get the option to look at something nice, rather than a plain generic background. The album art is huge, and everything just seems more clear and crisp as a whole. Even all my friends who have Ipods are way impressed when they check mine out. And Im not sure why anyone would say the sound quality of the ipod is better...Ive heard both, and they both really sound the same. It really mostly has to do with the quality of the song you're playing, not whats playing it.

If you have an Xbox 360, I recommend getting a Zune because any leftover points (in increments of 80) you may have on your Xbox Live account can go towards song purchases. That's been my favorite feaure of the Zune Marketplace, being able to use the same points that can't buy you anything on 360's Marketplace.

Ipod Touch is amazing although the battery life is horrible.

The Zune hardware blows as well. My brothers got 2 of them on Black Friday one broke, the screen cracked all by itself apparently a known problem and Microsoft refused to fix it. It was brought back and the other one was also traded in after the thing just stopped working and the new Zune they gave my brother immediately went on ebay.
I on the other hand have had an Ipod for 2 years, got a brand new one for Christmas and both still work like mint.
