i play, and i started when i was 12 and now im 13 1/2. and you read tabs by doing this: the numbers represt fret numbers. and it is upside down. So if it said 1 2 4 8 3, on the top line, we would play: 1st fret on the bottom string, 2nd fret on the bottom string, and so on. Its kinda confusing, but once you get the hang of it, its easy. Hope i helped!

The opening riff to Smoke on the Water is easy as hell. So is You Really Got Me.

I played bass for a few years, but I had to stop due to the ridiculous amount of homework I had.

I can ALMOST beat Through Fire and Flames on Expert... I hate it when everyone says something to do with Guitar Hero when commenting on a song on Youtube. But an easy solo to learn for your first is Smells Like Teen Spirit but learn the whole song as its easy. Seven Nation Army might also be an easy one. Also a good software to download is Guitar Pro or Power Tab. They will help you to hear what part of the song the tab is or something. But Guitar Pro will only last for 30 days as you have to buy it.

Umm, about 2 - 2 1/2 years... started due to listening to David Gilmour... i'm not that great, but meh. I'm one of those players who easily forgets things like note postitions but kane quite easily play in tune well by ear
My advice is start with some sort of squier beginner pack most come with some form of little amp... its just better that paying out for a great guitar that you wont use
