Id love for some badass brand like Rockstar to come along and pick it up.
Maybe Midway will do it? I also wouldnt mind if Activison or Neversoft picked it up.

EA Sports reportedly wants the License. If so, I would hope that there would still be 6 player compatiblity, as Def Jam never had that. I would also hope for the return of backstage arenas.
Or maybe Yukes could get the license, and produce and develop the titles.

When this whole lawsuit thing with THQ and WWE stared I am 99.99 percent sure it was revealed that Activision had put forward a much better proposal than what THQ did. Of course this has nothing to do with the actual game but the financial side, perhaps WWE would go back to Activision. Lets face it if EA want it then they will get I can not think of another publisher who could compete with the deep pockets of EA.

Just because Rockstar put out one good video game and then re-skinned it three times doesn't mean they have any worth as a developer, let alone one who could create a professional wrestling game. That's like saying, "why not let Bungie take a stab at it?"

Aww, now come on, Midnight Club and the Warriors are awesome. And they developed the console versions of Max Payne. Plus, as publishers, they've worked with the best, ranging from Bungie to Capcom.

WWE are angry at both THQ and Jakks because money was (illegally) exchanged between both companies to make sure that the WWE license stayed with them.
Apparently an outside company gave a great proposal to WWE about making videogames or merchandise, and THQ and Jakks paid off whomever it was that was in charge of the decision, to favour for Jakks/THQ.
WWE soon found out about this, and began a lawsuit with both THQ and Jakks to crush their contracts. Whomever it was that was in the WWE who had been paid off, was sacked and also brought to court. It is felt that WWE brought both companies to court, more so to embarass them publicly rather than actually crush the deal.
However, ever since then, WWE have been looking to crush both deals, and the lawsuit was terminated recently.
Jakks' contract was up, and WWE signed the dotted line on Mattel's contract rather than resign with Jakks.
Jakks and THQ work as a team in the creation of the videogames, meaning that there can't be too much of a gap between the two companies' contract expirations.
When THQ's contract is up, I'm almost 99% sure that WWE will give them the boot, and sign with another company.
On another note,
I pray Acclaim never see what a WWE contract looks like again. That is, If Acclaim still exist these days.

You're not going to have to worry about that since the company we all know as Acclaim want under in 2004.

It would be hilarious if that was their next project. Let's see, we did Marathon, we did Oni, we did the uber popular Halo series. What shall we do next?...hmm....

If EA would take it I would be happy because then we would be able to update rosters online.
