I got it early..due to a download site. DO NOT PM ME ASKING FOR IT. So here's my review based on about 4-5 hours of play.
Oh my God, this is a PS2 game?! They have you fooled from the get-go, because these graphics are better than almost ANYTHING I've seen on PS2. The animations are solid, the characters look amazing, and the blood, when they do bleed, is great as well. Phenomenal job so far.
Score: 10/10[/u]
Gameplay[/u]
Okay, so they tweaked a LOT. The right stick now triggers strike battles, test of strength, and so on. The left stick is used to taunt. Similar to KOC 2, WK 2 uses a powerball system, but you have to charge them here. To reverse moves, wait until you turn green, and press R1, however...this costs a powerball. Once 5 are stored, you activate special by pressing Square and X, and then repeat for your finisher. If you have 2 powerballs stored and press Triangle and Circle, you become temporarily invincible. But back to core mechanics, each guy has 5 weak grapple moves, and 5 strong grapple moves, totaling around 20 grapple moves each. Depth really isn't present as much as a SPIKE game, but it's still here. All in all, Yuke's REALLY improved this game...it's SO MUCH BETTER than WK 1.
Score: 9.7/10[/u]
Sound:[/u]
UGH...generic themes! TAJIRI, TAKA...both LACK THEIR REAL THEMES. Tajiri's is understandable, as it's a WWE owned theme. But TAKA's? Come on, there's no excuse. The crowd can get annoying screaming your guy's name during the intros, but it adds to the realism of the game. Most of the themes, like Williams/Gordy's "I Love It Loud" knockoff are really good, and I LOVE Takayama's new version of "Destructive Power". The sound is so-so, but don't let that take away from the experience.
Score: 7.5/10[/u]
Lasting Appeal:[/u]
The game has Championship mode, which is self explanatory, you go after the title you choose. Campaign mode is where you run the promotion, sorta like GM mode, haven't touched it too much. But with the unlockables of the game, how fun the game can be, this game has a LOT of Replay value.
Score: 9/10[/u]
Final Thought:[/u]
It's a gigantic step up from Wrestle Kingdom 1, roster-wise, gameplay-wise, and single-player mode wise. In EVERY way, this is better than the original. Kudos to you, Yuke's...you actually improved a game. Seriously, if you want a damned good reason to mod your PS2, this is it. BUY THIS GAME.
Overall Rating: 9.5/10[/u]
