Suburban Commando 1993
Format

To start for people who do not know Suburban Commando was a movie released in the early 90's staring Hulk Hogan and Christopher Lloyd it also had a small role for The Undertaker. Anyway the movie I always felt was not as bad as some people made out and as a kid I loved it and even now it has a certain charm. Will it win any awards for its plot or dialog of course not but its a fun family movie that any one can enjoy.
For whatever reason this game came out a little while after the movie and was not a huge success. In the UK I was only ever able to track down this game as part of a compilation never a single release so I am not sure how widely available it was when it first came out. As you can tell from the screen shots (which I took with my piece of **** camera) it is a scrolling beat/shoot em up which also has a level similar to the old R Type games. You play as the Hulkster and very loosely play through the plot of the movie.
As a mater of fact screw that last comment the game does not really follow the story at all at the start of each lever you get a sentence or if your lucky a paragraph explaining what the deal is. I will say this each level is based on a part of the movie be it the space ship or the sky scraper. Now Christopher Lloyd was a huge part of the movie yet he is not mentioned at all here neither is his wife and kids.
the game as a shoot em up is kind of fun you have to find a key on each level and it has fairly responsive controls. The game however is very short and very easy. Take the boss fights for example. When the boss hits you, you flash for a second and are invincible in this second it is possible to get about 3 hits on the boss. While I am on the boss fights the first one you think wow cool its Undertaker from the movie but the second boss is exactly the same but with purple hair, you then realise that its most probably just a coincidence that he looks like Taker. the final boss battle is General Suiter from the movie and you fight him in the abandoned disco juts like in the movie. For some reason he has the same picture above his health as the other 2 guys.
This game is what it is not bad just nothing fantastic I would think that if you played it you would probably want to play through it but after that you would probably never play it again. The graphics look great the backgrounds are a bit bland but the Hulkster looks good and is well animated. the sound is just average it serves its purpose but nothing memorable. I kind of like this game I just wish it had more of the movie plot. I mean why couldn't the plot of this be Hulk trying to save Charlie and his wife and Kids from General Suiter wouldn't thiis had made more sense?
Graphics 7.5/10
Sound 5/10
Gameplay 6/10
Lifespan 3.5/10
Roster NA
OVERALL 5/10
HOGAN VS MR PINK?
the programmers were clearly fans of the Reservoir Dogs movie as if you look at the high score screen you will notice 2 things. First my score is **** and second the names are from Reservoir Dogs "but couldn't this be a coincidence" your probably asking well I think not as one of the passwords for the level is Reservoir.
