Ok now a while back this review got deleted and I have finally found the memory stick that I saved it on. It is the exact same review( I just copied and pasted) but I had to use new pics as they came out weird when I tried to edit them. Please do not take this as a reason to top my old reviews.
Thanks
Jason
WWF Royal Rumble, 2000
Format
Arcade
Dreamcast
Wow 2000 was a busy year for WWF games as we saw quite a few. The first WWF THQ game for the Sega Dreamcast was a port of the arcade game Royal Rumble.
Royal Rumble had a few firsts for a WWF title first was that you could have 9 wrestlers in the ring at once which sadly was not as good as it sounds as things got far to crowded also targeting and getting hit in the back was pretty annoying also. Also another new thing was that your wrestlers could get abducted by aliens (more on this later)
There was a pretty small roster with some strange choices and absences for example we have Road Dogg but no Billy Gunn we have Rikishi but no Too Cool but all the superstars looked pretty damn good my favorite models were The Godfather and Rikishi( who THQ always do a good job on) this game also marked the first appearance of Kurt Angle.
There was 2 game modes first the royal rumble mode (which had the most annoying buzzer sound ever) where you could have up to 90 men involved but since there was only a 21 man roster this got old fast and a exhibition tournament mode where you would pick your guy and a partner who would stand at ring side and help. At the start of exhibition mode you had to pick what 3 moves your partner could do this ranged for throwing in a weapon or a double team move or my favorite they would execute there finishing move.
Now about the "alien abduction thing" if the match lasted to long the arena would go black and your superstar would look at the sky and then appear backstage or sometimes the ring would have a cage round it. This was really weird and I am not sure even for a arcade release why they did this.the game played very fast I always though the pace was a step or 2 ahead of Smackdown 1 and 2. There were a few cool little thing such as your special you had to fill up a bar and get 3 s to say do a stone cold stunner but with 1 or 2 s you could do another signature move. Another thing about the s is that in the rumble mode if you were about to be thrown out you could use your s to sneak back in under the bottom rope which was a nice touch.
This game I feel is under rated it is what it is a arcade game that was ported for the home systems they just could have added a little more. I think the graphics were great and it was a fun multi player the game gets average to bad reviews I feel because they compare it to Smackdown which is dumb really as why did people expect them to add a season mode to a arcade port? Bottom line this is a pick up and have a quick play game nothing more but it doesn't pretend to be.
Graphics 9/10
Sound 6/10
Gameplay 7/10
Lifespan 4.5/10
Roster 5/10
OVERALL 6/10
Thanks
