I received some figures that reek of smoke.
Any suggestions to get rid of it?

Have they yellowed as well? I had some figs that came from a smoker's home, and there's really no way to completely get rid of the stench.

Grab some old shirts of yours and wrap them in it.

They will always have that smell cooked into the plastic. Sorry. Wrong. What you need to do is get a plastic tupperware container that seals air tight. Put the figure(s) in the tupperware for 24 hours, and smokey smell is gone when you open it up the next day.

Leave them outside for a day or two, or lock them in a tupperware container with a box of baking soda. Unless the smoke damage is REALLY bad, either of those methods should take care of the problem.

Don't soak them in water or put any kind of stuff on them, that will probably ruin them. I would leave them outside for a day in the shade, maybe a slight spray of Febreeze but that's probably not neccessary. When I get figures second hand that smell weird I just wipe them over lightly with a damp cloth and then "polish" them til they're dry (not actually with polish but give them a firm rub with a dry cloth to shine them up and remove the thin film of spam and tar that is on there) Then I put them in my cabinet with a couple of hundred other figures and after a few days the smell is barely noticable.
