I have decided to review one of my favourite figures, for a few reasons.
1) I've wanted to review it.
2) Maybe it'll help We Need Hornswoggle! improve his lookalikes threads, by offering some ideas.
3) Kane has turned Ten in WWE yesterday.
So anyway...
The Figure:
WWE Limited Internet Exclusive Unmaskable Kane
The Accessories:
Accessories: Urn, Black towel, Kane's mask.
The Packaging:
The Review:
Based on the un-masking of the Big Red Machine, The figure comes with a suprisingly detailed removable mask, which fits the head perfectly. Some can argue with my "suprisingly detailed" remark as the mask does not have hair attached, as it did in the prototypes. However, this being a review, I am taking the figure for what it is, not what it could have been.
At first glance
Well it looks good, very good.
Having its own specific body moulds (Possibly the only figure in recent memory to be head-to-toe body specific) is a huge plus. Moulded belts, buckles, studs and glove sit very well with any fan of figures.
However.. after a bit of a closer look.. we begin to realist that the attire isn't actually based on the unmasking of Kane, rather, based on the attire worn when he returned in 2002.
In the time since his return and his un-masking, Kane has had specially designed Knee Pads added to his costume, along with the design on the singlet changing ever so slightly. Of course these are tiny flaws, but flaws nonetheless.
Looking Closer..
Well.. although it certainly does look like Kane, and nobody else.. we have the exact same problem again.. It just doesn't look like it is based on his unmasking. When unmasked he looked abnormal. His hair was a prominent feature and was half shaved off, thick and curly.. Our miniature replica looks like he fell in a puddle.
OK, Lets not be too harsh. The real Kane looked similar to the figure in the facial area. The figure would have strongly benefited from a new scan, but that would be asking entirely too much. However, a painted beard would have been more than welcome.
Nice threads..
Spot the difference:
*SIGH*
I could completely forgive this mistake. I could very happily say it would have went over budget to have a painted back. But.. on an internet exclusive, that costs more than a regular RA figure, and where the back is hidden behind towels and cardboard... Its just not acceptable. Jakks made Three Kane's in this attire if i am correct (Ruthless Aggression Series 5, WrestleMania Signature Gear Series, Internet Exclusive Unmaskable) and none of these featured a painted back.
Surely removing the pointless urn would have been enough saved on plastic to add an extra dab of paint?
Honestly... I dont know. I don't know Jakks budgets or accountants. What i do know is that i paid much more money for an internet exclusive, and recieved the same figure that was released in a regular RA series. Unfortunately.. this has come to be expected of the Billion Dollar Jakks...
Small details count...
OK, Well we have the awesome wristband (which was specially moulded for Kane), it has moulded studs, actually, i can say now that everything is moulded. there is nothing just painted on. that scores huge in my book. But anyway, It has the fingerless Kane glove, another nice detail.
Thankfully, i don't have to complain about elbow pads.
Kane wasn't wearing elbow pads when he returned:
And he wasn't wearing elbow pads when he unmasked, either:
And he didn't wear them after he unmasked:
OK, You guessed it. Sarcasm.
Yes, he has always worn elbow pads with this attire, unless he wasn't wrestling of course.
I reckon there would have been less fuss if it was a Kane-roonie exclusive.
But even that would require a painted back.
Overall...
Well.. As with most Jakks figures... Its a real hit and miss.
However, in my opinion, the good outweighs the bad. I don't think that I could claim it is the best Kane figure, but it certainly isn't the worst. One thing that worries me however, is that Jakks designed these moulds specifically for Kane.. yet he still isn't tall enough. Current day Kane figures are taller.
Its more a Kane compilation figure, rather than a figure based on the unmasking.
The accessory of a towel suggests that the figure is also based on the aftermath of the unmasking.
Overall, as inconsistent as it is, i have to rate it pretty highly.
In my book, this figure gets a deserved:
8/10
Please discuss.
