Hello all,
I was just reading the replies about the new Hardy 2-pack. I found the comments interesting in that a lot of people said that they would give it a miss because they only collect RA, but then people would respond saying ‘why only collect RA, DA are much better to play with’, so I was wondering, is there a correlation between the age of collectors as to whether they collect RA or DA.
It would make sense that younger collectors go for DA as they can do more with them, but older collectors who display only would go for RA. So I thought I would check to see if this theory is true or just a load of nonsense that I have dreamt up..
Could anyone who reads this just reply saying their age and whether they collect DA or RA.
I myself am 27 years old and collect RA only.

I am 26 and I collect DA. They don't look as "cartoony" as RA's do, IMO.

18, and I recently stoped buying RA and now only collect DAs. RA are just so outdated now.

I disagree with Graze. I think DAs look more cartoony than RAs. I mean, look at the tights mold and their scrawny little legs. A lot of DAs just have trouble standing up, which really bothers me.
I dunno..I really only like DAs for the bigger guys..but the scrawny legs kill the Taker/Kane figs.

Im 27 and only collect RA style. I actually feel the DA's are too cartoony.
Is anybody else bothered by the possibility that if Jakks doesnt resign to make the figures that another company will make them totally different then RA or DA? I dont play with them so its not like being on scale would come into play for me but the fact they would be all different makes me think that would stop me from collecting.

I'm 29 and collect mostly Deluxe Agression. Any RAs I buy are either the divas, or to take parts to use on custom DAs. I'm know DAs aren't perfect, but RA's have extremely limited mobility, don't always have good detailing, and the thighs are horrific. DA legs aren't that bad if you have the knee pads on them, or if they are one of the pants molds. Also, I have never had a problem standing my DAs up unassisted. To each their own. I've never had a problem with DA's scale since I have never been a big fan of RA anyway. That could also be a factor.

Tbh, another reason I don't like DAs is that there's a very minor selection for them, and it will probably always be that way. DAs aren't the future IMO. If they were, they would have taken over by now.

If they were, they would have taken over by now. I'd rather take a smaller selection for DA that sells than have a bunch of guys that warm shelves like RAs, CSs, and AD packs. Because if DAs warmed shelves the way the RAs do, everyone would be coming here and using that as another reason to bash DAs. Also, DAs are the future. If Jakks would have just up and switch every line over to the DA style, they would have alienated many collectors. At least this way, we get a choice and the best of both worlds. RA fans still get their figures, while those of us that wanted something better than RA get what we want.

The funny thing is, Jakks kind of contradicts itself with these two lines.
On one hand (As you pointed out)
DA = for kids (playability) RA = older collectors
But then...
DA = older collectors (Cost more) RA = for kids (Cost less)
From a kids' standpoint, it seems like it'd cost less to buy RA's, so their parents would just buy them an RA figure over a DA figure and save a few bucks. (Really, if you save $2 per figure and buy even, say, 30 figures, that's a savings of $60 right there!!) But then DA's are better for playability so it seems like kids would want them over collectors.
Oh well. If you try to make sense of anything Jakks does too much, your head will likely explode.
I agree with T1 though, in the sense that I disagree with what graze said. I think DA's look more cartoonish than RA figures. Just look at the legs of guys like Matt Hardy and The Sandman. And then if you REALLY want to drive the point home, look at that stupid sledgehammer.
In any event, I will be 28 shortly and collect primarily RA figures. I have a few odd DA figures here and there though. My neighbor is, like, 10 though and he collects only RA figures as well. So suck on that, DA!

I see those Kenny, Gregory Helms, & Wang Yang fruit booty DAs everwhere.

If they were, they would have taken over by now. I strongly disagree with your statement. I think it's obvious Jakks want to move forward with DA, look at the 3.75's and the Max lines coming up. I believe that it's because of the fans and collectors that RA is still the main line with the constant complaint of change. I think everyone, Jakks and the collectors don't want to see another fiasco like R3 where there isn't new product on shelves for months during a change of figure style. Let alone there still being so much of a difference in opinion on which figure types are liked more. I don't believe it comes down to age, I think in most cases it's people not wanting to have to start over. Personally, I prefer the DA figures, I usually only buy RA's or CS figures now to make DA Customs, or update heads. But I will say this, all it would take is something as small as changing the appearance of the DA knee joint ( on the tights/shorts wearing figures, with minor changes in the pants molds' knee joints) to change the opinions of a lot of the fans. The knee joint, the knee cap if you will is long the way they're currently made, but if they were cut down a bit length wise, and widened out width wise it would make the legs look a lot shorter, which in turn would make a world of difference in appearance with a minor change that I think would have more people into DA style figures. Peter or Jeremy, if there is any chance either of you read this, I WANT A JOB!

age has nothing to do with it, i buy RAs only because overall they are better than DAs. I especially hate the fact that DAs are so tall.

RAs look better. The knees look too akward. The torsos are all the same. No wrestlers are as muscular as a DA figure.

Well, I collect RA's & DA's. I only buy DA's of the superstars I like, And i only want a few DA's anyway. I have like 5 DA's on display, And there pretty nice. RA's are my main focus, Because there amazing figures.

I agree with Fruity's earlier comment on DA's. They do have difficulty standing on their own and yes the larger wrestlers like Taker and Kane blend well with RA figs like Rey Mysterio and Paul London. I am trying to collect all wrestlers that are 6 foot 4 inches in hight in DA form to go with the smaller wrestlers. The RA Rey Mysterio is just as tall as the RA John Cena and so the DA's are good for accurate scaling in terms of mixing them with RA's.

DA reminds me of the Ripped and Ruthless line up that came out during the BCA era. Although DA has been more successfull than R&R they both seem to be out of the category of the main WWE action figures. Dont bash RA because they have been a long and successfull lineup. I only fear that they will ruine the RA series due to the focuss on DAs. They are already making RA's somewhat larger to blend better with DA's I guess.
